BOSCH CRS180 battery
Von longmao, 08:19

Karlsruhe/Munich/Schweinfurt – The Automotive Aftermarket division of Robert Bosch GmbH, Knorr-Bremse Systeme für Nutzfahrzeuge GmbH, and ZF Friedrichshafen AG's ZF Service business unit plan to establish a joint venture. This new company will operate as a system center providing a full-service portfolio for multi-brand commercial-vehicle workshops. The joint venture is to be based in the greater Munich area and will initially employ some ten associates. The formation of the joint venture is subject to the approval of the relevant antitrust authorities. bosch Tool Battery

The joint venture's full-service portfolio is to include a hotline, technical training programs and information, diagnostics, workshop equipment, and quality management. Starting from the middle of next year, it is initially planned to offer the workshop franchise as an independent brand to multi-brand commercial-vehicle workshops in Germany. Following this, it will gradually be rolled out in other European countries. BOSCH CCS180B battery

The three joint-venture partners are among the leading international suppliers to passenger-car and commercial-vehicle manufacturers. Their product range helps the transport sector save fuel and makes it more eco-friendly. Their product ranges are complemented by extensive service expertise gained over many years in their individual workshop franchises. BOSCH CCS180K battery

"In the shape of Bosch Car Service and AutoCrew, Bosch already offers two internationally successful full-service concepts in the passenger-car workshop market. Based on this experience of workshop franchises and our expertise in the commercial-vehicle industry, for example with regard to engines and electrics, we intend to work together with Knorr-Bremse and ZF, whose strengths complement our own, so that workshops that service and repair commercial vehicles can also benefit from these services," says Robert Hanser, president of the Bosch Automotive Aftermarket division. BOSCH CFL180 battery

"The growing technical complexity of commercial-vehicle systems makes it increasingly important that we improve workshop expertise in this area, and in this way lastingly boost these workshops' competitiveness. As a specialist for safety systems in the commercial-vehicle sector, we are excited about this cooperation with Bosch and ZF, since it allows us to offer workshops advice in this area and to help them satisfy growing demands," says Klaus Deller, member of the executive board of Knorr-Bremse AG. BOSCH CFL180B battery

"With its comprehensive ZF Services ProTech franchise, ZF Services already offers workshops tailored support in drive and chassis technology. Together with our partners, we are now able to offer an even wider range of services," says Alois Ludwig, chairman of the board of directors of ZF Services. He goes on to summarize the objective of the planned workshop franchise for commercial vehicles: "Commercial-vehicle customers place particular importance on high quality and flexible service. BOSCH CRS180 battery

Our combination of a new franchise concept and tried and tested products in OE quality will allow us to help workshops take up this challenge and position themselves in the market."Stuttgart – Robert Bosch GmbH and its Reutlingen location have received the 2012 Environment Award for Businesses from the government of the state of Baden-Württemberg. Bosch received the judges' award in the "energy excellence" category. BOSCH CRS180B battery

The citation described Bosch as a company whose scope of activities for generating renewable power, saving energy, and developing solutions for increasing the company's energy efficiency is exemplary". Baden-Württemberg's environment minister Franz Untersteller presented the award yesterday evening at a ceremony in the Neues Schloss palace in Stuttgart. BOSCH CRS180K battery

"Environmental protection and sustainable business management are a central objective of our corporate strategy. Nearly half of Bosch's research and development budget already goes toward eco-friendly products," said Dr. Werner Struth, the Robert Bosch GmbH board of management member responsible for environmental protection. "Bosch sales of renewable energy technology have grown strongly since 2004, from 125 million to around 1.5 billion euros in 2011." BOSCH DDS180-01 DDS180-03 battery

The Reutlingen location has a sophisticated energy concept. All the waste heat from production processes is exploited, water is recovered, and the cooling-water and heating systems are interlinked. This reduces consumption of fossil fuels and saves on electricity for re-cooling. Other aspects of the energy concept include a combined heat and power (CHP) plant, heat pumps, flue-gas heat exchangers, a solar heating system, and a photovoltaic array. Together with efficient production processes and modern plant engineering, the concept helps Bosch save around 10,000 metric tons of CO2 a year at the Reutlingen location. Rather than by burning fossil fuels, 90 percent of the modern wafer fab's heat requirement is met by way of waste-heat utilization, a renewable form of energy. BOSCH DGSH-181 battery

In addition, the site management makes use of several electric vehicles. Soon, all associates will be able to recharge their electric cars or ebikes at the charge spots installed on site.

At its Reutlingen location, Bosch develops and manufactures sensors, semiconductors, and electronic control units for use in cars, smartphones, and ebikes. The site workforce comprises some 6,800 associates and 230 apprentices. BOSCH FHN180 battery
A new survey of British motorists shows that the majority of car buyers are positive about the concept of the autonomous car.
The research, commissioned by Bosch, shows that in addition to the current range of active and passive safety systems fitted to modern cars, many motorists would actively consider buying an autonomous car in the future. BOSCH GBH 18 V-LI battery
Bosch invests heavily in vehicle safety and driver assistance technologies, making driving safer, less stressful and more economical. BOSCH 2 607 336 169 ,BOSCH 2 607 336 170 ,BOSCH BAT609 ,BOSCH BAT609G ,BOSCH BAT618G ,
Measuring people's attitudes to both driving and travelling in autonomous vehicles, the survey also revealed that over one third of motorists think autonomous cars would reduce road accidents. Men are more at ease with the idea of autonomous vehicles – 44% think they would reduce road accidents compared to 21% of women.
Road to the future
Although considered science fiction by some, the autonomous car is a reality. Since the 1980s, car manufacturers have been actively developing autonomous vehicle technology. Companies such as Google have recently trialled autonomous technologies, which has brought the subject into the public's consciousness. BOSCH GDR 18 V-LI battery
Despite the fact that the mainstream production of autonomous vehicles may be many years away, the basics of the technology are already in place on many modern cars. Bosch supplies many of the technologies that form the foundation of an autonomous car, including Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Departure Warning.
In its simplest incarnation, Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) is able to assist the driver, by helping prevent skidding and thus keeping the vehicle safely on track.
Newer technology, such as the Predictive Emergency Braking System, provides faster reaction times to avoid critical situations with the vehicle in front and intervene with driver warnings and additional braking support – up to and including automatic partial and full braking. The survey also discovered that motorists are happy with these underlying safety and comfort technologies. BOSCH GDR 18 V-LIS battery
Peter Fouquet, president of Bosch UK said: "Bosch is developing safety and assistance systems for both high end and low-priced vehicle, to create tangible customer benefits making driving even more safe, comfortable and cost effective."
"Our research clearly shows consumers have confidence in driver assistance technologies such as Driver Drowsiness Detection. With each innovation, we move a step closer to the goal of accident-free and fully automated driving." BOSCH GDR 18V-LIMF battery
Driving safety remains a priority for Bosch. ESP® has been found to prevent up to 80 percent of all skidding accidents and must be fitted to all new cars by law from 2014. ESP®, and the other advanced technologies can play a significant role in reducing the number of road accidents. Be it parents, company car drivers, fleet managers or even legislators, no one should underestimate the positive impact that systems like ESP® and emergency braking systems can have.

Asus 90-NWF1B2000Y

Asus A31-1015Asus AL31-1015Asus A32-1015Asus PL32-1015

Samsung NP-P50 battery
Von longmao, 02:21

Samsung wants to score some points with the especially good price-performance ratio of the Series 3 models. They are offered in 11.6" (305U1A), 13.3" (300V3A), 17.3" (300E7A), and 15.6-inch form factors, our test unit being the latter. In order to achieve the low price, Samsung relies mainly on 2011 Sandy Bridge processors. Samsung NP-P50 battery

Our test candidate, the 300E5C A06DE, is equipped with an Intel Core i3-2310M CPU and 4 GB of system memory. In terms of video performance, the notebook uses the integrated Graphics 3000 chip. Samsung also offers models with a discrete graphics card, such as the 350V5C S05 (forthcoming) with an AMD Radeon HD 7670M. In terms of storage device, our model is equipped with a conventional hard drive working at 5400 RPM. Samsung NP-P60 battery

The case reminds us very much (except for the lighter gray) of the already reviewed sister model 305E7A (17.3-inch, AMD CPU and GPU) and 355V5C-S05DE (15.6-inch, AMD): the housing is made of black and gray plastic. The only glossy surface is around the keyboard and it proves to be a dirt magnet. On the display lid we find the familiar grooved pattern. Samsung AA-PB2VC6W

The interfaces and their arrangement match that of the 300E5A-S01. The layout favors right-handed users. External monitors can be connected via the digital HDMI or via the analog VGA ports. Samsung could have upgraded at least one of the three USB 2.0 ports to a USB 3.0 standard. SAMSUNG N150 Battery

Fortunately, here we are offered Realtek RTL8168/8111 Gigabit-LAN (10/100/1000 MBit), Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wireless Network Adapter (b/g/n) and Bluetooth V4.0 + HS that support the latest standards. SAMSUNG N150 Plus Battery

Accessories
Besides the basic necessities, such as the 48 Wh battery and the 65 W power supply, in the package we find a couple of information pamphlets, including a quick start guide. As is now usual, the user is responsible for the creation of the recovery DVD. This can be accomplished via the Samsung Recovery Solution software. Samsung AA-PB1VC6B

Maintenance
The hard drive and system memory can easily be reached through the maintenance cover on the bottom. Unfortunately there are no free slots or 2.5-inch bays - any upgrades require the removal of the installed components. Further disassembly, in order to reach and clean the fan and heat sink, is more complex and could void the warranty in case of damage. Samsung R505 Battery

The matte surface allows a precise cursor movement. The Elan Smart-Pad supports the modern multi-touch gestures. The two mouse buttons are centrally mounted and respond well. SAMSUNG N143-DP01VN

The installed 15.6-inch screen carries the name AUO21EC and comes from the Chinese manufacturer AU Optronics. The maximum resolution of 1366x768 pixels matches the price range of the notebook. The display is in the now common 16:9 format. Samsung AA-PL1VC6B

Fortunately, the screen has a matte surface and a good maximum brightness of 212 cd/m². In addition, the user should be satisfied with the relatively uniform illumination of 83%, a relatively low black level of 0.6 cd/m², and a good contrast ratio of 353:1. SAMSUNG NP-NC110 Battery

Subjectively, we liked the color reproduction and contrast. As with most notebooks in this price range, our test unit could not cover the sRGB and AdobeRGB color spaces. However, this is only important for the professional computer graphics users. The color reproduction suffices for office and Internet applications. Samsung AA-PB2NC6B

Outdoors, our Samsung test unit scores points with its matte surface. The brightness of 200 cd/m² suffices for use in the shade. There are no disturbing reflections caused by the viewing or light angle. Due to the weather conditions, only one photo in the shade was taken. But we assume that for use in direct sunlight, the brightness should be a bit higher, depending on the user's preferences. Samsung AA-PB9NS6B

The viewing angle stability is typical for a TN panel. Horizontally, the working area is generously wide. Vertically, especially when viewed from below, we quickly noticed color inversion and contrast loss. Samsung AA-PB9NC6B

Our test candidate is based on the Intel HM75 (Panther Point) chipset (-> manufacturer information), which supports both Ivy Bridge and Sandy Bridge processors. Our device is equipped with an Intel Core i3-2310M Sandy Bridge CPU, 4 GB of system memory, and a 5400 RPM hard drive. The integrated Graphics 3000 provides the graphics output. Thus our test unit is aimed more at office and Internet applications then at demanding 3D tasks. SAMSUNG P428 Battery

The Core i3-2310M by Intel is a dual-core processor of the Sandy Bridge generation. Thanks to Hyperthreading, up to four threads can be calculated simultaneously. Turbo Boost is lacking because of the graphics chip, which depending on the cooling capacity varies its clock frequency between 650 and 1100 MHz. You can read more about the CPU in our article. Our Benchmark list of mobile CPUs provides a performance ranking. SAMSUNG NC110 Battery

Fortunately the CPU performance in all CPU oriented benchmarks is on the expected level. In addition the CPU and GPU performance remains available on battery power. In comparison to the competition, only the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E530 with a Core i5 Sandy Bridge CPU is significantly faster. Samsung AA-PB4NC6B

The two PCMark tests, PCMark Vantage and PCMark 7, assess the performance of each individual component and summarize the overall score. Here, a fast storage device has a positive impact, while the graphics performance does not carry as much weight. Overall the system performance was on the expected level for this hardware configuration. Again, only the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E530 (Core i5-2450M, GeForce GT 630M) is significantly better than our test unit. Given the price range, all the devices are equipped with 5400 RPM hard drives. A faster storage device (SSD, hybrid solution or even 7200 RPM HDD) could provide a significant performance boost. Samsung AA-PB1VC6W

The installed Hitachi Travelstar 5K750 HTS547550A9E has a capacity of 500GB and works at 5400 RPM. The results of the HDTune and CrystalDiskMark are typical for a 5400 RPM model. Samsung R540 Battery

The Graphics 3000, integrated into the processor, has already been reviewed numerous times. Although the Core i3 processor has no Turbo Boost function for both its cores, the graphics chip can be overclocked from 650 MHz up to 1100 MHz. You can read more about the graphics chip in our article. Our Benchmark list of mobile Graphics cards and Games list provide performance ranking. The Samsung is mainly aimed at users with fairly moderate demands on 3D performance. Samsung R780 Battery

As the comparison chart below demonstrates, our test unit fares well against devices with the same graphics card in both 3DMark tests, 3DMark Vantage and 3DMark06, and in the OpenGL test by Cinebench R11.5. In contrast, the results of the Shading test in both versions of Cinebench R10 (32-bit and 64-bit) are surprisingly low. Lenovo's ThinkPad Edge E530 is the only compared notebook with a discrete AMD Radeon HD 7640G and significantly surpasses our 300E5C in this area. In view of the degree of popularity of the graphics card and the target use, office and Internet application, we did not run any gaming tests. In short, the 300E5C is enough for low settings and resolution in demanding 3D games. Samsung NC10-14GBK Battery

In idle state, the Samsung seems quite the quiet fellow. Sometimes the fan turns off completely, leaving only the faint noise of the rotating hard drive. Under load, we measured a noise level of 41.3 dB(A) with the standard settings. Those who find this too loud can use the Easy Settings tools to turn on the Silent Mode. Then the maximum volume under load falls to 35.3 dB(A) - at the expense of performance, since the clock frequencies are reduced. No fan control abnormalities were noticed. Samsung X22 Battery

Under low load, for which our 300E5C was designed, the temperatures of the surfaces remained within limits. This was not the case with the unrealistic stress test, several hours of 100% CPU and GPU load, where the 50 oC (122 oF) mark was exceeded with the standard settings. In practice, one should expect a problem free lap use. SAMSUNG NP-N150 Battery

During the stress test, the temperatures of the two CPU cores and the graphics chip remained in the green. The clock frequency of both cores remained stable. Only the GPU fluctuated at about 950 MHz. No throttling was observed, because the 3DMark06 we ran immediately afterwards ended with insignificant differences compared to a cold run. SAMSUNG NP-P480 Battery

The speakers are located above the keyboard. The sound remains undistorted even at maximum volume, but lacks bass as is usual for devices without a subwoofer. In order to enjoy music, we recommend the use of external speakers or quality headphones. The test of the 3.5mm jack showed no problems. SAMSUNG P480 Battery

The energy consumption of the hardware showed a maximum of 11.2 W in idle, 45.1 W under moderate 3D load with 3DMark06, and 56 W under full load. The Silent Mode not only lower the noise level, but also the clock frequency of the Core i3-2310M processor. Thus the power consumption falls to 23.6 W during the 3DMark06 run and 28 W during the stress test. Samsung AA-PB2NC3B

Our test candidate is equipped with a lithium-ion battery with a 48 Wh capacity. Thus with minimum brightness, energy-saving profile, and Wi-Fi modules turned off, it reached a battery run time of almost 7 hours in the Battery Eater Reader's test. Under load, simulated by the Classic test of the Battery Eater tool, with maximum brightness, high performance profile, and wireless modules turned on, the battery was empty after about 1.5 hours. This value is the minimum battery run time. ThinkPad X230i battery, charger
Von longmao, 02:35

This intentional limitation is clearly noticed in most benchmarks. Compared with other laptops using the same processor, such as Lenovo's IdeaPad Z580-M81EAGE, Lenovo's G780 shows a poorer performance of averagely 10 to 20%. LENOVO ThinkPad Edge E430 battery, charger

We use PCMark 7 and PCMark Vantage to assess the overall system performance of Lenovo's IdeaPad G780. Low 1933 and 6715 points speak for themselves since the system remains below the expected level. Contenders like HP's Pavilion DV7-7000sg (2450M, GT 630M) with 2059 and 7161 points or MSI's GE70-i547W7H (3210M, GT 650M) with 2023 and 7038 points show the possibilities. Lenovo offers 320 GB HDDs with up to 1 TB in the G780 range. Seagate's Momentus ST750LM022 HN-M750MB is installed in the test device. It has a large memory capacity for multimedia data with 750 GB and spins agreeably fast with 5400 rpm. The HDTune benchmark tool recorded a transfer rate of 79.4 MB/s and an access time of 18.2 ms, which are average rates for a conventional hard drive. The burst rate of 178.9 MB/s is within a good range. The hard drive was always very audible and palpable during the benchmark tests, which is a drawback of conventional spinning drives. ThinkPad X230i battery, charger

An array comprised of Intel's HD Graphics 4000 CPU-integrated GPU and Nvidia's dedicated GeForce GT 630M graphics card featuring Nvidia's energy-saving Optimus technology take care of graphical tasks. LENOVO ThinkPad X230T battery, charger

Nvidia's GeForce GT 630M is a lower midrange graphics card that has 2 GB of DDR3 VRAM. The dedicated graphics card consistently achieved its core clock of 475 MHz and memory clock of 900 MHz and did not throttle even during full load in the synthetic benchmarks. LENOVO ThinkPad X230 Hybrid battery, charger

Lenovo's G780 is not a downright gaming machine in view of the installed components. Nevertheless, Nvidia's GeForce GT 630M is suitable for the odd, occasional game. We played our FIFA 13 and Anno 2070 benchmarks, representative of gaming. FIFA 13 ran smoothly and achieved at least 70 fps even in ultra-settings. The somewhat more hardware-hungry Anno 2070 first displayed smooth 32 fps in medium settings. Thus, up-to-date games are playable when the settings are modified accordingly. LENOVO ThinkPad X230T battery, charger

The laptop was only noticed to some extent with an average of 32 dB(A) in idle, although the fan ran permanently. The measured noise climbed to 35.6 dB(A) when playing a Blu-Ray disc and the laptop was clearly audible in quiet movie scenes. The noise level increased to a maximum of 38.1 dB(A) when we loaded the G780. However, the fan was never noticed adversely because of its low-pitched characteristic. LENOVO ThinkPad X230Tablet battery, charger

The surface temperatures of Lenovo's G780 stayed within limits subjectively. The vital areas, such as the wrist rest and touchpad, did not heat up excessively even during full load; the temperatures ranged between 28 and 37 °C. A maximum of 45 °C was reached in the area above the air outlet. LENOVO ThinkPad X230 Tablet battery, charger

The casing clearly remained below this maximum rate in routine use so that use on the lap should always be possible. The top reached a maximum of 33.8 °C and the bottom's peak was 34.7 °C in idle. We ascertained an average of approximately 30 °C on the surfaces. The PSU's temperature of 32.3 °C stayed within an uncritical range in idle. However, it reached 52.6 °C during load so that air circulation should be ensured. LENOVO S200 battery, charger

The CPU's core temperature reached a maximum of 91 °C and the GPU heated up to reasonable 84 °C in the stress test. Overall, these are not unusual temperatures that would explain why Lenovo omits the CPU's Turbo Boost. LENOVO G470 battery, charger

Both 1.5 W speakers in Lenovo's G780 are on the laptop's bottom and are certified as "Dolby Advanced Audio v2". Nevertheless, the little transducers produce a treble-heavy sound. Mids fade into the background and there is barely any bass. The very high-pitched sounding speakers tend to overdrive quickly in higher volumes. The performance is still acceptable for quiet, background music, but external solutions should be used for playing multimedia content, music or games. LENOVO G470A battery, charger

Lenovo's IdeaPad G780 consumed an average of 0.5 watts in standby. It is only 0.1 watts when the laptop is turned off. The laptop required between 8.8 and 13.6 watts in idle. The PSU drained a maximum of 62.9 watts from the outlet during full load. LENOVO G470AH battery, charger

The 6-cell, 48 Wh lithium ion battery, charger has a capacity of 4400 mAh and weighs just below 300 grams. Lenovo specifies a maximum runtime of 5 hours. battery, chargerEater's synthetic Reader's test excelled this. The laptop was first drained after 5 hours and 49 minutes using maximum energy-saving settings, disabled Wi-Fi modules and minimum brightness. Lenovo's G780 still lasted for 94 minutes in battery, chargerEater's Classic test with enabled Wi-Fi and maximum brightness. LENOVO G470G battery, charger

Our practical internet runtime test, which simulates browsing through different websites in medium brightness and with enabled Wi-Fi, forced the laptop back to an external power source after nearly 3.5 hours. Lenovo's G780 allowed 150 minutes of movie entertainment from a Blu-Ray disc in balanced energy-saving settings and the Wi-Fi module off. LENOVO IdeaPad G470 battery, charger

Lenovo bundles an appealing total package with the installed components comprising of Intel's Core i5 3210M and its integrated HD Graphics 4000, Nvidia's GeForce GT 630M, 8 GB of working memory and a generous 750 GB hard disk. Routine Office tasks, internet browsing, multimedia enjoyment and the occasional game are no problem for the hardware. However, the artificial clock rate limitation of the otherwise very strong CPU is a drawback. LENOVO IdeaPad G470A battery, charger

Good battery, charger runtimes are possible owing to Nvidia's energy-efficient Optimus technology. The G780 exhibits a discreet remodeling as the prior model's case has been adopted; there are no great modifications. The input devices are reliable and precise so that typing longer texts and navigating via the touchpad are easy. LENOVO IdeaPad G470AH battery, charger

The glare-type 17.3-inch screen is not as compelling. It offers a mediocre brightness and can score with subjectively crisp colors from a central viewing position. The glossy surface quickly produces annoying reflections that strongly limit use in direct light. Lenovo regrettably does not offer a Full HD resolution even for its top model. Thus, the 3 kg multimedia laptop will preferably be used as a desktop replacement. LENOVO IdeaPad G470G battery, charger

The laptop is currently available in seven configurations in a price range between 579 Euros and 999 Euros (~$739 and $1275). There is only one device featuring an i7-3612QM quad-core processor over our i5-3210M G780 (M843MGE) test device in the G780 portfolio. Additionally, an Ivy Bridge i3 CPU is also available. Finally, alternatives using Sandy Bridge i3 CPUs comprise the least expensive option for the G780. LENOVO B570 battery, charger

Equally priced competitors, such as HP's Pavilion DV7-7000sg or HP's Pavilion G7-2007sg, basically do not offer better equipment. Customers who are willing to invest approximately 130 Euros (~$165) more should look at alternatives like Medion's Akoya P7815-MD98063 or MSI's GE70-i547W7H. Both multimedia laptops offer strong equipment and can even serve with matte Full HD screens. LENOVO B570A battery, charger

The case fan is definitely audible, but not disturbing. When using two external monitors it is most noticeable. If you disconnect the monitors, it calms down and is only slightly noticed: we measured between 33.1 and 35.7 dB(A). When playing a DVD the noise reaches 35.6 dB(A), but that is hardly disturbing. Only in the case of artificially created full load, which can hardly be reached in everyday use, did we measure an unpleasant maximum of 46.2 dB(A). When gaming, the noise remains at a significantly lower level and escapes our attention in the heat of the battle anyway. LENOVO B570G battery, charger

In idle mode, the IdeaPad Z585 remains properly cool, thanks to the constantly running fan. The maximum temperature in the central region of the keyboard was at 33 °C (91.4 °F). We measured 27 °C (80.6 °F) on the palm rest – a really good value, which only increases to 36 °C (96.8 °F) under load. This is very good. The stress test, however, shows the weaknesses: on the left is the only outlet for the hot air. On this spot we measured 51 °C (123.8 °F) - not dangerous, but still very high. If we use the notebook on the lap while browsing the web, the temperatures remain in the green. But as soon as we start a demanding application, the notebook becomes uncomfortably warm. LENOVO IdeaPad B570 battery, charger

Even under 100% load on the processor and graphics card via Prime95 and FurMark, we did not observe any throttling - lowering of the frequency of components. The CPU reached a maximum of 90 °C (194 °F) after two hours, running constantly at 2700 MHz. LENOVO IdeaPad B570A battery, charger

The sound system, consisting of two speakers with 2 W total power, is the same as the one in the already reviewed Lenovo IdeaPad Z580. It is as it should be for a multimedia notebook, though it has somewhat shallow bass. In contrast, the mids and highs are clear and without distortions. The pre-installed Dolby Home Theater 4 has various sound enhancement options in the equalizer and also allows the creation of six additional sound profiles. LENOVO IdeaPad B570G battery, charger

Lower energy consumption is not insignificant for a mobile device, allowing its prolonged use without AC power. In idle, our test unit consumes between 9.3 and 13.1 W. These values are in the range of similar multimedia notebooks that have the difficult task of balancing high performance with low power consumption. In terms of the maximum consumption, the Z585 comes at the front of the middle class. It uses up to 75 W under full load, which can hardly occur in practice. This is 5 W less than the similarly equipped Acer Aspire V3-551G-10468G50Makk. In the 3D benchmarks, our test unit consumed 53.4 W - a relatively good value. LENOVO V370 battery, charger

We determined the maximum run times with the tool battery, charger Eater. With minimum brightness, deactivated WLAN and Bluetooth, and energy-saving profile active, we measured the maximum battery, charger life of 5 hours and 46 minutes. Our WLAN test offers more realistic results. With the display brightness set at about 150 cd/m² and activated energy-saving mode, our standard script reloads the web pages every 40 seconds. In this scenario, the battery, charger ran out of steam after 3 hours and 41 minutes. In order to play a DVD without hiccups, we set the energy profile to "Balanced" and turned the wireless modules off. The notebook managed 2 hours and 42 minutes. LENOVO ThinkPad T430si battery, charger

The battery, charger performance is on average at the middle of the list - the Intel counterpart, Lenovo's IdeaPad Z580 with Nvidia GeForce GT 630M, has better results. Unfortunately the manufacturer does not offer an upgrade to a larger battery, charger. LENOVO ThinkPad T430s battery, charger

With the IdeaPad Z585, Lenovo offers a decent multimedia notebook at about 730 Euros (~$935). It is clear that you should not expect any wonders for this price. The stable plastic case, the features offered, and the accessories are usual for this price range. Lenovo tries to offer more flexibility to their clients with the separate number pad, but unfortunately that goes down the drain. It takes too much space out of the rest of the keyboard, limiting the size and usability of the two Shift buttons. LENOVO ThinkPad T530 battery, charger On the other hand, we liked the touchpad with its various settings. The glossy display is convincing for office work, but not for dark movie scenes and outdoor use. The crisp image via both the VGA and HDMI ports impressed us, while the somewhat short battery, charger life is disappointing. As a compensation, the dual graphics solution manages to run modern games at medium settings, while still being cooled efficiently. Those needing less graphics and more CPU power should take a look at the similarly priced Lenovo IdeaPad Z580. In any case, the 15-inch notebook has managed to find its place. akku ASUS G73SW-TZ221V

The ASUS G73 is has a "stealth" look, with non-traditional shape with angled surfaces and sharp lines that is clearly influenced by modern stealth aircraft. . The protruding rear end is especially aggressive with its angled exhaust vents. ASUS G73JH-TZ128V battery charging
The physical size of the G73 is intimidating, even compared to other 17-inch notebooks. The chassis is actually angled upward 5 degrees, which gives the notebook a more assertive feel and helps with ergonomics. The notebook has a rubberized shell, which has a pleasant touch and adds a measure of durability. ASUS G73JH-TZ091V battery charging

The G73 has strong build quality; it feels very solid (and heavy) when being held. The notebook is constructed entirely of thick and good quality plastic. The chassis is very resistant to twisting and surfaces like the palm rests barely flex under pressure. The lid has excellent support from two large and strong display hinges. The panel itself has ample support and twists less than most 17-inch notebooks. Furthermore, no ripples appear on the display when pressure is applied from behind the screen. Overall, the G73 is impressive in both the build quality and design departments. ASUS G73JH-TZ059V battery charging

Screen and Speakers
The G73JH comes with a 17.3-inch LED-backlit screen with a full HD (1920x1080) resolution. The display has a glossy surface that helps make colors more vibrant, but suffers from reflections as a result. The display is, in a word, beautiful. It is very enjoyable to use for gaming and multimedia. Viewing angles are about average; there is little color shift from side to side. However, colors quickly wash out and darken from above and below. ASUS G73JH-TZ034V battery charging

The display has a high-resolution as well, which is appreciated. With a full HD resolution, it's easy to view two windows side-by-side without shrinking them too much. The higher resolution also helps bring out the finer details in games and reduces the amount of scrolling necessary while surfing the Web. ASUS G73JH-TZ014V battery charging

The G73 has two stereo speakers located below the display and a small subwoofer. The speakers get reasonably loud and there is measurable bass. For notebook speakers, these are more than acceptable. ASUS G73JH-TZ012V battery charging

Keyboard and Touchpad
The G73 has a full-size keyboard with a separate numeric keypad. ASUS G73JH-TZ011V battery charging The keyboard has a "Chiclet" or island-style keyboard, where the keys are raised above the keyboard surface and have more than usual spacing. The keyboard has a soft, rubbery feel (not a bad thing) and makes typing easy. While some flex is evident when you type and the keyboard could have slightly better support, these two factors do not affect its usability. The tactile feedback is adequate, though could be improved if the keys had a longer throw. ASUS G73JH-TZ008Z battery charging

The G73's keyboard is backlit and looks good in the dark. We like that the keys have a rubberized non-slip finish, which adds durability and makes them more comfortable to use over extended periods of time. The keyboard's layout around the number pad is somewhat squashed though all keys are more or less in their expected positions. Overall, we like the keyboard and do not have any major qualms with it. ASUS G73JH-TZ008X battery charging

The extra-large touchpad sits slightly off-center to the left of the chassis to line up with the keyboard. ASUS G73JH-TZ002V battery charging It has a much-appreciated matte surface, which is easy to track on regardless of whether fingers are moist or dry. The right side of the touchpad is a dedicated scroll zone however it required an unusual amount of pressure to use. Unfortunately, the touchpad buttons are subpar. While quiet, they are harder to push down than expected, and we don't like that they are contained under a single piece of plastic. ASUS G73JH-TY098V battery charging

Apparently, gamers have no appetite for subtlety when it comes to style, ASUS G73JH-TY075V battery charging colours and flashing lights. As such, gaming PCs tend to resemble the Blackpool Illuminations, while gaming laptops have more lights than a 1980s revival disco. We expected the same from Asus' latest Republic of Gamers laptop, so we were surprised by its velvety, matt-black exterior and the Lamborghini Gallardo-influenced angles, complete with exhaust-shaped vents at the rear. ASUS G73JH-TY048V battery charging

The G73Jh doesn't weigh a ton either, and even when we turned it on, it had only subtle lights for WiFi, overclocking and so forth, and a slight blue glow beneath the screen. There's an Intel Core i7 processor and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 inside – this isn't just a chic laptop, it's also one of the fastest ever. ASUS G73JH-TY042V battery charging

As with most laptop technology, you shouldn't expect the same level of performance as a desktop, even if the laptop parts share the same names as the desktop. The CPU is the Core i7-720QM, the third highest in the range, yet it's nominally clocked at a meagre 1.6GHz. It may be a Hyper-Threaded quad-core CPU, but that seems paltry when decent desktop processors are a full 1GHz faster. ASUS G73JH-TY009V battery charging

Note that we used the word 'nominally' – the CPU is based on Clarksfield, which is the mobile version of the Lynnfield architecture of LGA1156 Core i5 and Core i7 CPUs. As such, it has Turbo Mode (Rev 2) and can boost its speed to 2.8GHz when necessary, and drop as low as 996MHz when idle to cut down on heat, noise and power consumption. ASUS G73JH-TX008V battery charging

Unlike the nominally 1.73GHz Core i7-820QM, the i7-720QM has only 6MB of Level 3 cache rather than 8MB. More is better, and Intel always equips its flagship CPUs with 2MB of highest-level cache per physical core. ASUS G73JH-ROG battery charging

Equally, the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 isn't the equal of its desktop relative, thanks to the small dimensions of the card and the limited cooling ability of a laptop. While a desktop HD 5870 packs 1,600 stream processors into the GPU, which run at 850MHz, the laptop equivalent has half the number of stream processors and runs at 700MHz. However, the laptop GPU has more than half the number of transistors and a TDP of 50W, while the desktop card consumes 188W (ATI doesn't quote directly comparable power and heat figures for the desktop and laptop parts). ASUS G73JH-RE1 battery charging

However, with 800 stream processors, the Radeon Mobility HD 5870 is closer in configuration to the capable, but mid-range Radeon HD 5770 desktop card, although it has a slower GPU (700MHz compared to 850MHz). ASUS G73JH-RCNX09 battery charging

Still, with a ludicrous 8GB of 1,333MHz DDR3 memory, our review version of the G73 was hardly likely to be slow. Asus has seen fit to pack in two 500GB Seagate Momentus 7200.4 hard disks, and as their name suggests, these have spindle speeds of 7,200rpm rather than the typical 5,400rpm of laptop hard disks. Around the sides of the laptop are four USB 2 ports, an SD/MMC/MS media card reader, jacks for a headset (the audio codec supports EAX 4.0), and D-Sub and HDMI video outputs. ASUS G73JH-RBBX09 battery charging

When word of the Asus G73JH first came out at CES 2010, it definitely left an impression. A giant, all-black 17-inch full HD wide-screen gaming laptop with a Core i7 processor, 8GB of memory, dual 7,200rpm 500GB hard drives, a Blu-ray combo drive, and a 1GB ATI Radeon HD5870 graphics card for $1,700 is tough to ignore. However, this is not that G73JH. ASUS G73JH-RBBX05 battery charging

The model we reviewed has less storage, less memory, no Blu-ray playback, and a lower-resolution display than that model, but retains much of the core components at a significantly lower $1,200 price. It's an excellent high-performance notebook for the money and well put together, too. We have a couple of issues with the design, but nothing to keep us from recommending it for anyone needing a more affordable, but still very powerful, desktop replacement. ASUS G73JH-DX11 battery charging

Inspired by the F-117 stealth fighter jet, the angular chassis is big and aggressive looking, but still somewhat low key. ASUS G73JH-BST7 battery charging Gone are the flashing lights and garish color schemes of previous Asus gaming systems we've tested. The G73JH is instead a nice matte black with the lid and keyboard deck finished in a pleasant rubberized texture that, unlike glossy plastic, doesn't need a constant wipe down to remove fingerprints. ASUS G73JH-B1 battery charging

On the lid is a simple silver Asus logo with a small engraved Republic of Gamers emblem below it. The only lights are a handful of blue backlit buttons and a single beam of blue light tucked into the bottom edge of the LCD's bezel. (The keyboard is also backlit for easier use in the dark.) It's an impressively large notebook and far from travel-friendly. All things considered, the system weight isn't bad; the power brick is gigantic, however, and weighs 2 pounds alone. ASUS G73JH-ATI 5870 battery charging

ASUS G53SW-XT1 Charger

Immediately noticeable--whether the lid is up or down--is the junk in the trunk of this laptop. ASUS G73JH-ATI battery charging The keyboard deck is angled up 5 degrees to improve ergonomics, but also draws your eyes to the giant back end. There are two large cooling vents at the far left and right sides that apparently draw air through the front and exhaust it out the back. The battery charging pack is tucked in between the two vents. The setup allows the system to stay cool and relatively quiet even under full load. There are two substantial hinges for the LCD, but they are not in a typical location at the back of the system; they're moved forward about 2 inches so the display sort of floats above the body with the vents extending out behind it. ASUS G73JH-A3 battery charging

At the top left of the keyboard are three buttons; one shuts off the blue light under the screen, another activates a TwinTurbo mode, and the last changes screen color modes (Normal, Gamma Corrected, Vivid, Theater, Soft, and a custom option). ASUS G73JH-A2 battery charging The TwinTurbo mode provides instant overclocking and didn't seem to make much of a difference on this already powerful system. There are no discrete media controls, just markings on the function and directional keys. It's not a huge deal, but separate volume/mute keys would be appreciated. ASUS G73JH-A1 battery charging

Asus as usual makes good use of Function button commands so you can quickly change things like power schemes (High Performance, ASUS G73JH battery charging Entertainment, Quiet Office, and Power Saving) by pressing Fn + space bar. The keyboard is, again, backlit and the intensity is adjustable or can be shut off entirely. The keys have a peculiar rattle to them when typing and though the keyboard is pretty big, considering the size of the system, it seems unnecessarily compact; the number pad on the far right is noticeably squished compared with similarly sized laptops we've tested. In contrast, the touch pad and its accompanying single button are huge. ASUS G73J battery charging

The 2.1-speaker system performs well, getting very loud without distortion, but for having a small subwoofer, it doesn't have a great low-end. They sound good, but you'll still want to invest in desktop speakers or headphones for gaming or media. ASUS G73GW battery charging

The Asus G73JH-RBBX05's 17.3-inch glossy wide-screen LCD has a 1,600x900-pixel native resolution, ASUS G73G battery charging which is standard for lower-end desktop replacements. However, we're starting to see 1,920x1,080 pixels as the prevalent resolution on laptops at and more than this G73JH's price. In fact, other versions of this notebook are available with that resolution. The LED-backlit LCD gets very bright and has good color and contrast, though, and while the higher resolution would be great, we can't say we were disappointed with its performance. Viewing angles off to the sides are pretty good, too. ASUS G73 battery charging

The networking and port assortment on this G73JH is pretty basic; no Bluetooth, no eSATA or FireWire ports, no ExpressCard slots, no DisplayPort, and no Blu-ray player. If you don't need any of those things then you're set. ASUS G53SX-XT1 battery charging

Though the G73JH-RBBX05 isn't configurable before purchase, the G73JH is available in other versions. The port assortment stays the same, but you can get things such as Bluetooth and a Blu-ray-DVD combo drive. Should you want to make your own post-purchase additions, a panel in the bottom gives you easy access to internal components; there's room in the version we reviewed for 2GB more memory and an additional hard drive. ASUS G53SX-XR1 battery charging

The combined performance from the Core i7 processor, 6GB of RAM, 7,200rpm hard drive, ASUS G53SX-XN1 battery charging and 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 is pretty great, especially considering the laptop's price. It sailed through our multitasking, image processing, and audio encoding benchmark tests, achieving exemplary scores on all. In real-life testing it had no trouble handling streaming audio and video while simultaneously running IM and e-mail clients and other background tasks. We tested with a handful of games including Mass Effect, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and Just Cause 2; all played smoothly. Again, for the money, this is a solid system. ASUS G53SX-XA1 battery charging

Earlier this year, we attended the Asus 2010 CES Event in Las Vegas. ASUS G53SX-XA battery charging While there, we caught a glimpse of several upcoming notebooks the hardware giant had in store. One of the most anticipated products we saw was in the Republic of Gamers line up. Dubbed the G73JH, it possessed a list of impressive specifications and an aggressive, stealth fighter design that spoke directly to enthusiasts. Thankfully, this powerhouse of a notebook made it to our lab and we had a chance to put it through our own testing. Ever since CES, we've been waiting to find out if the G73JH performed as good as it looked. Equally important, we aimed to determine where it fits in a market bursting at the seams with gaming laptops and desktop replacement notebooks. ASUS G53SX-TH71 battery charging

We mentioned that the G73 had killer specs and here they are. ASUS G53SX-SZ019V battery charging At the heart of this monster is an Intel Core i7 720QM quad-core processor, clocked at 1.6GHz with Turbo Boost technology for increased single core performance (up to 2.8GHz) and Hyper-Threading for multitasking situations. We find 8GB of DDR3 RAM installed, along with 1TB of total storage, consisting of two 500GB Seagate hard drives. But the real draw is ATI's Mobility HD 5870 graphics card with 1GB of GDDR5 memory and enough pixel pushing power to feed a 17.3" screen. In addition, Asus includes a full sized keyboard, Blu-ray drive, and a 2MP webcam, and a all of this comes at a relatively affordable price point. Interested? We thought so. Read on to find out how fast the G73 really is, and if it has what it takes to be your next laptop. ASUS G53SX-SX017V battery charging

Measuring in at 16.4" wide by 12.6" deep and weighing 8 lbs, the G73 does not qualify as thin and light. Don't get us wrong though, it is mobile enough for LAN parties and occasional travel, but much too large to carry on and use during a flight. Yes, the G73JH is smaller and lighter than your average desktop replacement notebook, but we feel that it is similar in that it begs to be stationary and plugged into a wall outlet. ASUS G53SX-S1185V battery charging

The hardware specs speak for themselves. This is a cutting edge gaming notebook with a powerful CPU, tons of RAM, and a high-end Radeon HD 5870 mobile graphics card installed. Let's take a closer look at the rest of the laptop, as well as the results of our benchmarks and testing. ASUS G53SX-RH71 battery charging

When not making tiny netbooks, Asus is busy crafting enormous gaming laptops that are fast enough to melt your face off. Its latest effort, the 17.3-inch G73, is the first we've seen that features the ATI Radeon HD 5870 GPU -- ATI's fastest mobile graphics card to date. The model sold in the UK, the G73Jh, also features an Intel Core i7-720QM CPU, 1TB of storage, a Blu-ray drive, and 8GB of DDR3 memory. It's available now for around £1,900. ASUS G53SX-NH71 battery charging

Stealth bomber
The G73Jh is the Hulk Hogan of laptops. It measures 420 by 67 by 310mm, and weighs 3.9kg, so you'll struggle to use it anywhere other than at home. That's a shame, because it's a sexy beast. ASUS G53SX-IX122V battery charging

Unlike most gaming laptops, it isn't adorned with flashing lights and garish embellishments hinting at its performance. Instead, it politely suggests its aggressive nature with a menacing matte black finish and a chassis inspired by the iconic F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighter. Every surface -- from the area around the keyboard to the frame of the webcam -- features slanting surfaces and jaunty angles. The G73Jh may not be a bomb-dropping, radar-dodging bringer of atomic death, but one glance is all it takes to convince you that it means business. ASUS G53SX-DH71 battery charging

The meaty vents on the G73Jh's rear keep its high-end internal components cool
Although the G73Jh lacks a built-in light show, it's not dull to look at -- there are plenty of appealing touches that look cool and also serve a real purpose. For instance, the battery charging pack isn't some off-the-shelf unit borrowed from another Asus machine. Its chunky, angular aesthetic is completely coherent with the rest of the laptop's design, and it gives the G73Jh a wedge shape, raising the keyboard to an ergonomic, five-degree angle. ASUS G53SX-AH71 battery charging

The keyboard itself is fabulous. Its chiclet-style buttons are well spaced out and have a responsive feel. The entire keyboard is backlit too, so you can see what you're doing in the dark. ASUS G53SX-A1 battery charging

Fast components
The G73Jh is brimming with high-end components. An Intel Core i7-720QM processor takes centre stage, accompanied by 8GB of high-speed DDR3 PC3-10700 memory and a top-of-the-range ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics card. ASUS G53SX 3D battery charging

The keyboard is comfortable to use, and its backlight means you can use it in the dark
These components can generate a massive amount of heat, so it's just as well that Asus has fitted the G73Jh with an elaborate cooling system. Two large vents live at the rear of the system, sucking air in and away from the internal components. It looks like the sort of thing that would generate a great deal of noise, but, for the most part, the G73Jh runs quietly and remains cool to the touch. ASUS G53SX battery charging

Rock out with your clock out
The G73Jh's Core i7-720QM CPU runs, as standard, at a relatively modest 1.6GHz -- the same clock speed as most netbook processors. Don't let this fool you, though -- it's a quad-core monster with the ability to overclock itself dynamically. It can sense when the user requires more performance and increase its clock speed to a mammoth 2.8GHz -- provided the unit is operating in the right temperature and power envelope. Accidentally cover up a vent, for example, and the system may get hotter than normal, limiting its overclocking potential. ASUS G53SW-XT1 battery charging

LENOVO IdeaPad Y570D charger
Von longmao, 04:09

And the Samsung 550P7C is not the kind of notebook you can sling in a bag and cart around without risking the need to trouble your chiropractor before long. LENOVO IdeaPad Y580 charger
As a desktop replacement, however, it boasts some impressive credentials, including an Ivy Bridge Core i7  CPU rated at 2.3GHz (Turbo Boost 3.3GHz). That all-important screen is LED backlit, measures 17.3in, and crams in 1600 x 900 pixels. It's driven by an nVidia GeForce GT 650M with 2GB of VRAM, which is very capable graphics processor. LENOVO IdeaPad Y570P charger
The display has a matt finish so while not optimal for watching movies, it will please those troubled by glare in a well-lit rooms and offices.
In terms of connecting to the outside world, the Samsung 550P7C has gigabit ethernet, dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.
There are two USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 ports, a three-in-one card reader, and both VGA and HDMI. There's also a Blu-ray/DVD-RW drive. Oh and a pair of JBL-branded speakers with extra bass speaker. LENOVO IdeaPad Y570NT  charger
In addition to the huge 1TB hard disk, Samsung has also reserved space inside for a second 2.5in drive, including the required proprietary SATA cable in the packing box.
Given the Samsung 550P7C's core specs and its price, you'd be forgiven for thinking that something has to give somewhere. And you'd be right. That something is build quality. It's not that its flimsy, far from it. But the plastic chassis is very, well, plastic. LENOVO IdeaPad Y570N  charger
And while it won't slide easily off your desk, thanks to its 3kg heft and rubber feet, we'd hate to imagine the consequences if it did. We'd expect better of a high-spec laptop.
The keyboard, on the other hand, is lovely. Keys are well-spaced and have enough travel to make typing on it very satisfying. The trackpad is responsive and supports multi-touch gestures such as pinch to zoom – you'll have minutes of fun re-arranging the icons on your desktop with that.
Samsung 550P7C: Performance LENOVO IdeaPad Y570M  charger

In our tests the Samsung 550 did rather well. A WorldBench score of 136 points is good for a machine without solid-state storage and at this price is very respectable.
And the MobileMark 2007 Productivity score of over 440 minutes charger life is excellent. LENOVO IdeaPad Y570D  charger
In our games tests, the 550 notched up a decent 122fps in FEAR with detail set to Maximum.
In the more challenging Crysis test we recorded rates of 65fps (DirectX 9, 1024 x 768, Low detail) and 39fps (DirectX 10, 1280 x 720, Medium). That puts the 550 some way behind the likes of games-tuned Toshiba's Qosmio X870-11Q and the Alienware M14x – but for a laptop which can be bought for less than £800, it's very respectable.
Audio from the speakers over-emphasised the bass a little too much for our liking, but was an improvement on most laptop speakers, and Blu-ray movies looked great on the large display. LENOVO IdeaPad Y570A  charger
This review was revised on 11th Oct 2012 with a more accurate WorldBench figure of 136 points, rather than 121 points, and including details of the storage options.

The Dell Inspiron 17R is a budget desktop replacement laptop, which sounds like it might be an oxymoron. After all, how can a laptop that's meant to replace a desktop be, well, a cheap laptop (listed at £559, to be exact)? LENOVO IdeaPad Y570  charger

Our review model sports an Intel Core i5-3210M processor - a dual-core CPU running at 2.5GHz (3.1GHz in turbo mode) - and a rather small 3MB shared L3 cache. It's also equipped with 4GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive, a DVD-RW optical drive, and built-in Bluetooth 4.0 and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. The 17.3-inch LCD panel offers 1600 by 900 native resolution, and has discrete Nvidia GeForce GT 630M graphics. OS chores are handled by the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium. See also Group test: what's the best budget laptop? LENOVO ThinkPad X1 Hybrid  charger
  Dell Inspiron 17R: Performance

In our WorldBench 7 benchmark tests, the Inspiron 17R scored a below-average 86 out of 100. This means the Inspiron 17R is 14 percent slower than our baseline model, which sports a second-generation Intel i5 desktop processor and 8GB of RAM. This score is particularly low for the desktop replacement category. In fact, it's safe to say that while the Inspiron 17R may look the part of a desktop replacement, given its hulking, 17.3-inch size, it's nowhere near the league of most desktop replacements we've reviewed recently. See also: Laptop Advisor. LENOVO ThinkPad X1 charger
For example, the Alienware M17x R4 scored 146 on WorldBench 7, while the Samsung Series 7 Gamer scored 123. Sure, the Asus G75VW scored just 97, but remember that all three of these laptops are much more impressive than the Dell in ways other than WorldBench 7 performance score. In other tests the Inspiron 17R really showed its weaknesses - it scored 1627 in our office productivity tests, which is nowhere near the 6045 that the category leader, the Origin EON17-S, scored. In our Web performance tests, it managed 13.5 frames per second (the Origin managed 21.3). LENOVO ThinkPad X220i Tablet  charger
While the Dell Inspiron 17R's general performance is a little low, graphics performance is decent. The Inspiron 17R has a discrete Nvidia GeForce GT 630M graphics card, so expect decent gaming performance. LENOVO ThinkPad X220 Tablet charger
On another positive note, the Inspiron 17R does have slightly better charger life than do most of its competitors. In our charger life tests it managed to eke out 3 hours, 42 minutes, which isn't great, but isn't awful for the desktop replacement category. The last three laptops we tested in the category averaged 3 hours, 39 minutes, and the category leader (the Origin EON17-S) achieved only 2 hours, 33 minutes. LENOVO ThinkPad X220T charger
Dell Inspiron 17R design: chassis, keyboard, trackpad

The Dell Inspiron 17R isn't super-stylish, but it's also not bad-looking for a cheap desktop-replacement-size laptop. Our review model features rounded corners, plastic accents, and a switchable lid, like some other Dell laptops we've recently looked at. The lid features a silver brushed aluminum plate with a shiny finish, but if you flick a switch at the back of the computer the plate snaps out. You can then replace the plate with one of a different color or texture. This is a nice touch if you like to change up your laptop style every once in a while. Lenovo ThinkPad E530 charger
The interior sports a similarly luxe-looking brushed aluminum wrist rest (which is not switchable), as well as a black plastic bezel surrounding the glossy screen. Dell is clearly trying with the fancy aluminum plates, but the rounded corners and plastic edges just make the computer look a little cheap. And, well...it is. Lenovo ThinkPad 570E charger
The Inspiron 17R also has a full-sized keyboard with matte black island-style keys against a shiny black plastic base, as well as a 10-key numeric keypad. The keys are a little small, but are slightly indented to allow for more accurate typing. I found this keyboard one of the more comfortable I've used recently, as the keys are nicely spaced and offer good tactile feedback. They are initially a little stiff, which takes some getting used to, but typing quickly and accurately is easy. Lenovo ThinkPad 570 charger
Above the keyboard are three buttons: a settings button, which opens the Windows Mobility Center; a Waves MAXXAudio button, which lets you toggle through sound presets such as "movie" and "voice"; and a configurable "Instant Launch" button, to which you can assign your desired function. LENOVO ThinkPad Edge E430c  charger
A large trackpad with discrete mouse buttons is located below the keyboard, slightly offset to the left. The trackpad is actually a continuation of the brushed-aluminum wrist rest, though it has a slightly rougher texture. The trackpad is large and sensitive, and performs multitouch gestures such as pinch-to-zoom and two-finger scrolling smoothly. The buttons are large, but a little difficult to press as they don't have much tactile feedback. They are pretty, though, and they look like they've been neatly cut out of the aluminum background. The trackpad can be turned off using the Fn F3 key, and a small orange light turns on when the trackpad is disabled. LENOVO ThinkPad Edge E430 charger
Port-wise, the Inspiron 17R is acceptable: four USB 3.0 ports (two on each side), HDMI- and VGA-out ports, and microphone and headphone jacks, plus gigabit ethernet, a lock slot, and a multicard reader. This isn't the greatest port selection I've seen on a desktop replacement, but the USB 3.0 ports on either side of the machine are a nice touch.
Dell Inspiron 17R: Screen and speakers Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E325 charger

The Dell Inspiron 17R sports a 17.3-inch glossy display with a native resolution of 1600 by 900 pixels. While this isn't the best resolution for a 17.3-inch screen, it's not truly awful, either. Other desktop replacements typically have 1920 by 1080 pixel resolutions, but other desktop replacements also cost a lot more than the Inspiron 17R. So you get what you pay for. Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E320 charger
Apart from resolution, the Inspiron 17R's screen looks pretty good. It's very bright (almost overwhelmingly so at its brightest setting), so it's good for use outside or in brightly lit areas. Colors look good, if sometimes a little washed out. Images and text look crisp, and off-axis viewing angles are acceptable. The screen isn't too reflective, despite its glossy finish. Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E125 charger
Video looks and sounds good on the Inspiron 17R. Integrated graphics issues (such as choppiness and artifacting) aside, HD video runs fairly smoothly. The speakers, which are on the bottom of the computer, near the front, produce loud, full sound. Sound is enhanced with Waves MAXXAudio software, which helps create much louder, deeper audio. The speakers can be a little harsh and tinny at the highest volume setting. Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E120 charger

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 delivers serious power at a price that won't break the bank. On the other hand, it might break your back, weighing a hefty 6.2 pounds (not including accessories). But for comfort-be-damned power users, the Y580 will be well worth its £849 price. See Group test: what's the best laptop? LENOVO ThinkPad T430si charger

While it is heavy, it somehow manages to be not too bulky. The dimensions are 15.2 inches wide by 10 inches deep by 1.5 inches high. Its size and weight can be easily forgiven when you learn how well equipped it is. See all mid-range laptop reviews.
Lenovo IdeaPad Y580: Performance LENOVO ThinkPad T430s charger
Its speedy Intel Core i7-3610QM processor runs at a standard 2.3GHz, but Intel's Max Turbo Frequency technology kicks it up to 3.3GHz when put under strain. The Y580 scored a 108 on our rigorous Worldbench 7 benchmark suite. This makes it about 8 percent faster than our fully equipped desktop baseline system. Lenovo also provides 8GB of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM. This machine  has plenty of speed and power for any application. Take a look at the Toshiba Satellite Z930 Ultrabook review too. LENOVO ThinkPad T530 charger

The Y580 also delivered a strong performance in our graphics/gaming benchmarks, thanks to the presence of an Nvidia GeForce GTX 660M GPU.To push the system to the brink, we ran DiRT 3 and Crysis 2 at the display's maximum resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels, with the games' graphics set on Ultra. Read our Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon review also. LENOVO ThinkPad T430 charger

The Y580 pulled 29.2 frames per second on DiRT 3 and 20.5 fps on Crysis 2. While that is barely playable, LENOVO IdeaPad V370G charger those are respectable numbers at the Ultra settings. When we dropped the settings down to High, DiRT 3 hit the coveted 60 fps mark (reaching an average of 61.1). Crysis 2 didn't become playable at that setting until we dropped the game's resolution to 800 by 600 pixels (at which point it averaged 80.1 fps).  When we set the graphics quality to Low, the Y580 was able to hit 75.5 frames per second with 1366-by-768 resolution.   Lenovo IdeaPad Y580: Display and design
It's rare to see a lower-priced laptop sporting such a high-definition display. The 15.6-inch LED-backlit screen is pretty and not overly glossy, but it does throw a mean reflection at certain angles. LENOVO IdeaPad V370A charger
Lenovo pulled out all the stops with this machine, and the company made great strides turning it into a decent hybrid of gaming laptop and media machine. While so many laptops are foregoing optical drives to save space, weight, and money, LENOVO IdeaPad V370 charger Lenovo threw in a Blu-ray drive to render the Y580 capable of showing high-definition movies. The Y580's design is sleek but simple: It looks like a true power machine, but one that's free of flashy lights and garish decals. The wide, backlit keyboard is comfortable to type on, and the touchpad is smooth and easy to use. I rarely have nice things to say about touchpads, since any plug-in mouse will be vastly superior, but this one's size and smooth, glass-like texture obviate any hassle in use. LENOVO V370P charger
  Lenovo IdeaPad Y580: Ports aplenty
The Y580 also has plenty of speedy ports and features. On the left side are ports for VGA, HDMI, and gigabit ethernet, plus a pair of USB 3.0 ports. On the right  is a third USB 3.0 port, one USB 2.0,  the usual headphone and microphone ports, and the aforementioned Blu-ray drive. Wireless connectivity comes in the form of 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Intel's WiDi technology (for wireless audio and video streaming to a compatible monitor or HDTV). LENOVO V370G charger
Making use of Intel's Smart Response Technology, Lenovo configured a 64GB SSD to operate as cache for a higher-capacity (but much slower) 1TB, 5400-rpm mechanical drive. This configuration allows the system both to start up faster (boot time is just 21.7 seconds) and to run storage-intensive tasks much faster. A high-definition (720p), 1.0-megapixel webcam is built into the Y580's display bezel, and Lenovo bundles some fun recording software, as well. LENOVO V370A charger
With all its powerful components, it's no wonder that the Y580 falls short on our charger test: It delivered a little less than 4.5 hours of use, a significantly shorter life than what other notebooks we've tested recently have delivered. That might be enough juice to get light users through the day, but you won't want to travel far without a heavy power adapter nearby; there's  a good chance you'll need it. LENOVO V370 charger
If you're looking for an even better deal, Lenovo's IdeaPad U410 scored a whopping 117 on our Worldbench 7 benchmark, and it's pretty cheap. True, the processor and graphics card powering the U410 are a little weaker than what you'll find in the Y580, LENOVO IdeaPad B570G charger and you'll give up the Blu-ray drive and the beautiful 1920-by-1080 display (the U410's maximum resolution is 1366 by 768 pixels). The flip side of these compromises is that the U410 outlasted the Y580's charger by an hour, and it consumed far less power while plugged in, too. If you're looking for a mean green machine, and you don't plan on playing hard-core games, the U410 would be a great choice—and it costs about £200 less than the Y580. LENOVO IdeaPad B570A charger

With a maximum thickness that barely approaches 17mm and a weight that's only just over 1.1kg, the 13.3in Toshiba Satellite Z930 is clearly one of the shining examples of what conventional Ultrabooks can and should be. It also packs a great amount of power within its thin chassis, thanks to a third generation Intel Core i5 CPU and a fast solid state drive, and it doesn't sacrifice much when it comes to connectivity. See: more ultraportable reviews. LENOVO IdeaPad B570 charger

Physically, the Satellite Z930 is similar to the Portege Z930 that we have already reviewed, with the main difference being the screen on the Satellite, which is glossy rather than matte, and also the lack of a SIM card slot on the side. The Portege is a business model equipped with a vPro chip that allows it to be more easily managed when rolled out in a corporate setting, and it also features biometric security and TPM. The Satellite is a consumer model and lacks those management and security features, but for anyone who doesn't need those features and who values great portability, it represents great value. See also Group test: what's the best ultrabook laptop? LENOVO B570G charger
We spent a lot of time with the Satellite Z930 during our test period and used it extensively on a day-to-day basis. It's the type of Ultrabook which, at first, can feel a little bit uncomfortable due to its shallow keyboard (the chassis is only 10mm thick on it's own after all), but the more we used it, the more we comfortable we got with it. In fact, we found it a rather pleasant Ultrabook to use for prolonged periods of typing, whether on a sturdy desk on our lap. Visit Asus Zenbook UX21E-DH52. LENOVO B570A charger

The keyboard has a chiclet style layout with keys that are 15mm wide and very soft to hit. As mentioned, they don't have much travel, but after a while you get used to them and they start to feel quite comfortable. We like the fact that it's a backlit keyboard, which can be always-on or controlled by a timer. It's great for typing in any sorts of dark environments. See also Lenovo IdeaPad U300s-1080. LENOVO B570 charger
Furthermore, the light weight of the Satellite Z930 allows you to use it on your lap with ease — and it's so light you can easily lift it and hold it up with one hand while you fiddle with your belongings or change position in your seat (if taking notes during a presentation, for example). The fan in the chassis doesn't make any noticeable noise when the Ultrabook is used for document creation, basic Web browsing and photo viewing. It does spin very quickly and makes a noticeable rushing sound when the CPU or graphics processors need to work at their maximum load for a while. LENOVO IdeaPad G470G charger
We don't think that the screen on the Satellite Z930 is great, primarily because it has a glossy finish that can reflect light sources behind you, and also because it has vertical angles that are narrow. However, once we found the sweet spot viewing angle, it was a fine screen on which to consume photos, LENOVO IdeaPad G470AH charger videos and documents. It's a bright screen that can be seen relatively easily in all sorts of well-lit environments; at the same time it's brightness can be manually turned down to a comfortably low viewing level in dark environments. However, a low brightness level combined with an illuminated keyboard backlight means you can sometimes see key reflections in the screen while using the notebook at night. LENOVO IdeaPad G470A charger
The touchpad is 85x50mm in size and has separate left- and right-click buttons rather than featuring a clickpad style with the buttons housed underneath the pad itself. It's a touchpad that was mostly responsive during our test period, and it performed multi-finger gestures such as two-finger scrolling and three-finger flicks without us having to repeat ourselves. The texture of the pad is a little too resistive for out liking — we would prefer a much smoother finish, and the left- and right-click keys are not the easiest to use because of the way they are set in the chassis; for example, they can be quite difficult to press with your thumb while trying to perform one-handed right-click-and-drag operations. LENOVO IdeaPad G470 charger

Even though it's such a thin and light Ultrabook, it doesn't feel compromised when it comes to build quality. The chassis is sturdily constructed and doesn't bend when you handle the Ultrabook with one hand from either corner; the screen itself is only about 4mm thick, designed to flex a little, and is held by hinges that are smooth and not overly stiff. In fact, the screen does sometimes have a tendency to lean forward on its own if you move the chassis up and down with reasonable force — for example, when picking up the unit after using it in your lap. LENOVO G470G charger
It's worth noting that because the screen is so thin and flexible, you shouldn't place any pressure on top of the notebook while the lid is closed — you could end up with an ever-so-slight keyboard outline on the screen's glossy finish if you do. Furthermore, the finish on the lid and chassis can be tarnished if you regularly carry around the Satellite in a backpack in between books, for example, without placing in a protective sleeve. LENOVO G470AH charger
Toshiba Satellite Z930: Features

The majority of the Satellite's ports are located along the spine of the chassis. LENOVO G470A charger These include Gigabit Ethernet, two USB 2.0 ports, a full-sized HDMI port, a VGA port and the power port. We like the location of these ports, which are convenient when using the laptop on a desk setting to access a wired network and a bigger display. However, we would have liked the USB 2.0 ports to be USB 3.0 ports instead. The sole USB 3.0 port on the Satellite is located on the right side just next to the cable lock facility. The left side has separate headphone and microphone ports, as well as an SD card slot. LENOVO G470 charger

On the inside, you get a webcam, Bluetooth and 802.11n Wi-Fi. Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi is an Atheros AR9485WB-EG module, which only supports single-band operation. We would have preferred an Intel Centrino chip with dual-band radios and WiDi support, but if you don't have requirements for dual-band or WiDi, then the Atheros chip will be just fine. LENOVO s270 charger
  Toshiba Satellite Z930: Performance

When it comes to performance, the Satellite Z930 won't be a disappointment. LENOVO s230 charger It features an Intel Core i5-3317U processor that includes Intel HD 4000 graphics, and you get a generous 6GB of RAM to go along with it. Additionally, storage is provided by a 128GB solid state drive that proved to be very fast in our tests. It's safe to say that for typical office work (think word processing, presentation creation, spreadsheets and Web browsing), as well as photo editing, multimedia viewing and chatting, the Satellite won't let you down. It will even be able to perform tougher tasks such as video encoding and a limited amount of editing if you let it — even though it's not really designed to work hard for long periods of time. LENOVO s220 charger
In our Blender 3D and iTunes MP3 encoding tests, respective times of 49sec and 57sec were recorded. These times compare favourably against other Core i5-3317U Ultrabooks, such as Toshiba's own U840W and also HP's Envy Spectre XT. In our AutoGordianKnot test, where we convert a DVD file into an Xvid file, the Satellite's time of 56min shows how capable it is of performing tougher tasks — anything under one hour in this test is a very good result. LENOVO S280 charger
The integrated graphics of the Satellite Z930 performed well in 3DMark06, where a score of 5207 was recorded. It will be able to supply more than adequate power for presentation software, image editing and even a little bit of gaming, depending on the games you play (you won't be able to run the latest first-person shooters, for example). The graphics drive the screen's native 1366x768-pixel resolution, but can also be used to output Full HD video through the HDMI port. There is also an analogue video output if you only have older monitors or projectors to hand. LENOVO S260 charger
A 128GB solid state drive takes care of the storage needs for the Satellite Z930, and it's very fast. In CrystalDiskMark, it recorded a read rate of 474 megabytes per second (MBps) and a write rate of 236MBps. These results are just shy of the performance shown by the Portege Z930's solid state drive; however, in our own file duplication tests, the Satellite averaged much faster performance than the Portege, recording a rate of 174.5MBps compared to 137MBps. This is even faster than the previous fastest laptop in this test, the Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook. LENOVO S200 charger
During everyday workloads, the Satellite Z930 felt very responsive, whether we were opening applications, LENOVO ThinkPad X230 Tablet charger multitasking or copying files. Its resume time from sleep was just shy of 3sec and it was immediately connected to our wireless network by the time we got to the Desktop. Cold boot time was a mere 16sec. The only thing that diminished the overall user experience was the amount of third-party software that was preinstalled on our test model, including Clickfree Backup, Norton Internet Security and Splashtop Streamer, all of which, at one time or another, required user intervention to get rid of pop-ups and registration notices.
Toshiba Satellite Z930: charger life LENOVO ThinkPad X230Tablet charger

We tested the charger life of the Satellite Z930 using our standard rundown test, in which we disable power management, maximise screen brightness, enable Wi-Fi and loop an Xvid-encoded video until the unit can run no longer. The Z930 lasted 3hr 13min in this test, which is a result that's lower than the average for Ultrabooks, and even non-Ultrabooks with 13-inch screens. The Portege Z930, for example, lasted 4hr in this test. LENOVO ThinkPad X230T charger
When using the Z930 during a typical work day, with Wi-Fi enabled, the screen brightness at medium and running word processing and Web browsing tasks, we got over 4hr 30min out of it before having to reach for a power point. How long you get out of it will depend on your workload and configuration settings. LENOVO ThinkPad X230T charger
Toshiba Satellite Z930: Conclusion

Despite the lower than average charger life, the Satellite Z930 proved itself to be one of the best Ultrabooks on the market, mainly due to its light weight, slim design and great overall performance. We found it to be comfortable to use once we got accustomed to its keyboard and screen viewing angles and think it's a great model to consider if you want something highly portable to carry with you on a daily basis. With a street price that is sometimes lower than £799, it's also a great deal. LENOVO ThinkPad X230 Hybrid  charger

One of the advantages of the dizzying progress of computer technology is that a good deal of power can be bought for very little. The Toshiba Satellite Pro L850-11U might lack the all-round showmanship of Acer's budget fare, but it's still a solid laptop. ThinkPad X230i charger

adapter LG LW20

Akku SA5KX08AL

Adapter GATEWAY 3018GZ

Asus Eee PC 4G Surf charger
Von longmao, 10:56

The chosen forms are simple, so, they contribute to the L40's worthy appearance. However, the construction of the case, the lid, and the front edge, make it easy to have the L40 pegged as Toshiba notebook. For those who are not really insiders, there's also a highly visible logo on the lid. Asus Eee PC 2G Surf charger

The plastic look and feel of the case when using the notebook is also distinctive. The haptics are rather moderate, however, the potential buyers of the Satellite L40-14N won't really mind. However, the L40's case still seems to be passably robust. Asus Eee PC 4G charger

The flexural rigidity and pressure resistance of the case is alright. So, basically using plastics was regarding these aspects unproblematic. Considering the low price, also the workmanship is alright. The only weakness is the slightly wobbling DVD tray. Asus Eee PC 4G Surf charger

The display also left a good impression. Its flexural rigidity is also passable and its pressure resistance is good. Also the hinges appear to be robust and keep the display's position without problems. A ramshorn hook keeps the Toshiba Satellite L40 closed during transportation. Asus Eee PC 701 charger

The provided ports are user-friendly located near the back of the flanks and at the back side of the notebook. However, only the most important interface are provided: Three USB 2.0 ports, VGA out for connecting an external screen or beamer, modem, and LAN (10/100 Mbit) , and two 3.5mm jacks for microphone respectively headphones. Asus Eee PC 8G charger

The keyboard comes with a typical Toshiba layout. The size of the keys is standard and the enter key extends over two rows. Despite it is not obviously structured the keyboard is user-friendly.The key feedback is rather clear. However, in practice, typing feels a little rickety, because the side lead of the keys is obviously too low. Asus Eee PC 900 charger

On the one hand the surface of the touch pad is user-friendly and the touch pad allows a precise navigation. However, its position is rather low compared to the case. Also its buttons could not really convince. It was cumbersome to use them and their clicking noise was rather loud and nasty. Neither the horizontal nor the vertical scroll regions are visually labeled. Asus Eee PC 700 charger

The Toshiba Satellite L40-14N does not provide any hot keys. There's only a switch for enabling/disabling the wireless communication at the front edge. All other options, e.g., volume control, have to be configured via standard keyboard by means of FN keys. Asus Eee PC 1015 charger

The display is rather untypical for the consumer market. Its a display with widespread WXGA resolution that is 1280x800 pixels, however, its surface is matte. So, it hardly reflects. Asus Eee PC 1015P charger

Also, the brightness of the screen is overall positive. Brightness levels of a maximum of 210.7 cd/m² measured in the left bottom region and a also still passable average brightness of 180 cd/m² are alright. However, the illumination of the panel is only 75%, because the brightness diminishes in the upper corners. Asus Eee PC 1015PE charger

Because of the matte display and its passable brightness, the screen of the Toshiba Satellite L40-14N should also be reasonably fit for outdoor usage. Although the brightness could be a little bit higher in this aspect, the non-reflecting surface nonetheless allows trouble-free work even when the light conditions are only moderate. Asus Eee PC 1016 charger

Rather narrow viewing angles are a weakness of the provided screen. Vertically, you'll face whitening respectively darkening if your viewing angle even only slightly deviates from the ideal. Horizontally, there is a clear contrast loss. Asus Eee PC 1016P charger

While many notebooks are nowadays equipped with Core 2 Duo CPUs, the technical specification of the Toshiba L40-14N lists a Dual-Core CPU with a clock rate of 1.46 GHz, which is a rather low rank CPU today. Although the T2310 CPU is based on Core 2 Duo CPUs (including 64 Bit support), it is only equipped with 1MB L2 Cache. Though the clock rate of the CPU is rather low, it benefits from the dual core technology inherent to dual core processors, which unites good performance and low energy demand. Asus Eee PC 1215 charger

Particularly with regard to the CPU, the Intel GMA X3100, an integrated video chip, is appropriate. Although it is not equipped with dedicated memory, it can dynamically use up to 358MB of RAM, if the laptop is equipped with at least 2GB RAM. However, the reviewed notebook was only equipped with 1GB RAM, so, less memory can be allocated for video processing. Asus Eee PC 1215N charger

This is also the primary disadvantage of the Satellite L40-14N. The pre-installed, memory demanding Windows Vista operating system uses already most of the available RAM. Furthermore, also the integrated video chip needs a part of the RAM. So, only little RAM is available for applications, which can worsen the performance. EPC 1015 charger

Therefore, we would highly recommend a memory upgrade, so that the notebook is equipped with a total of 2GB RAM. Due to a maintenance opening at the bottom side, it is easy to change memory modules. However, you'll need to buy two new 1GB modules, because there are only two slots and these are already occupied by two 512MB RAM modules. EPC 1015P charger
If you consider a CPU upgrade, there are not many options available. The Intel GL960 express notebook chip set supports only up to 533 Mhz FSB processors. So, most of the up-to-date Core 2 Duo CPUs (with 667MHz) cannot be used. EPC 1015PE charger

The Toshiba Satellite L40-14N is a typical notebook for text processing, browsing the Internet, watching movies, and listening to music. The performance is adequate for these purpose. If you focus on better performance, you should definitely consider upgrading RAM and CPU. EPC 1016 charger

During our review the Toshiba Satellite L40 was rather quiet without load (idle mode) and it's noise emissions stayed low during text processing and browsing the Internet via WLAN. The built-in hard disk was also hardly audible. Although the fan sped up under load, the noise level got never annoying. EPC 1016P charger

Although the maximum temperature was as high as 43.4°C at the bottom side, this is still alright. The top side stayed very cool. The maximum temperature of 36.8°C was measured near the back. EPC 1215 charger

The two speakers are left and right at the front edge of the base unit. Their sound is rather passable. Compared to other office notebooks even the basses are acceptable. Overall, the speakers are fit for rather good music playback. Asus Eee PC 1015B charger

Asus Eee PC 1015PEG Charger

to top
The Toshiba Satellite L40-14N is equipped with a lithium ions battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh (43Wh). The measured runtime in battery mode ranges from about 80 minutes under load to a maximum of about 3 hours at minimum energy demand. Asus Eee PC 1015P charger

Overall mobility is to some extent feasible. You can expect that the battery runtime will range from two to two and a half hour in practice. Asus Eee PC 1015PD charger

The Toshiba Satellite L40-14N is an office notebook whose equipment is kept to a minimum. It is able to comply with minimum demands, but, its main advantage is the low price. The L40-14N's case is decent. The workmanship is also good. Despite plastic is used at the surface parts, the stability of the case is convincing. Asus Eee PC 1015PDG charger

In general the keyboard is alright. However, during typing we found that some keys wobble and clatter little bit. We did not like the touch pad buttons, because to much force is needed to use them and, furthermore, their clicking noise is too loud. Asus Eee PC 1015PDT charger

We were pleased that the display has a matte and non-reflecting surface. Typically only business notebooks provide such a display. The measured brightness was also alright. The weakness of this panel is basically its narrow viewing angles, which could perhaps cause problems during mobile use. Asus Eee PC 1015PE charger

Regarding performance the Toshiba L40-14N is equipped for office work and adequate for these demands. However, there are hardly any reserve capacities. Especially the available RAM can soon turn out to be a real bottleneck. Asus Eee PC 1015PEB charger

The Toshiba L40 scores points regarding emissions. It is very quiet in idle mode and also the surface temperature stays within admissible range. The battery runtime ranges from a little above one hour under load to a maximum of 3 hours. Though limited, a mobile use of the L40 is possible. Asus Eee PC 1015PED charger

Fujitsu-Siemens (FSC) presents an about 1.8 kg light, portable, and powerful 13.3 inch notebook of the ultra-portable subnotebook class, the Lifebook S6410. Due to compact dimensions, i.e. 31,3 x 23,3 x 2,4 to 3,5 centimeters, it is easy to transport it in standard bags. Available for about 1,650 Euro, the Lifebook S6410 is ex factory delivered with further accessories, like a convenient notebook bag and a cable for modem connection. Asus Eee PC 1015PEG charger

Even optical recovery data media for the operating systems Windows XP Professional, Windows Vista Business, and CDs for Nero 7 Essentials, a burning and media software, and the business-bundle, value4you business suite (Corel WordPerfect Office X3, Babylon 6 – translation @ a click, and Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0) are included. Asus Eee PC 1015PEM charger

Beyond doubt an eye-catcher: The razor-thin lid of the Lifebook S6410 attracts attention at once. Despite of the very thin design, its stability is amazing, however, its pressure resistance and flexural rigidity are due to the construction method limited. Clear interference of the display can be provoked by pressing ones finger even slightly more forceful in the center of the lid or in the upper LCD-frame. So, you should take care that nothing hard bears against the lid, if you transport it in the supplied bag. Asus Eee PC 1015PN charger

Fujitsu-siemens S26391-F405-L810

Ultrabook-Liebhaber bekommen also gute Mobilität spendiert. Fujitsu FPCBP251

Fujitsu FPCBP233

Bei all den gebotenen Premiumfeatures musste also Asus irgendwo anders sparen.

Review Acer Aspire 3830TG Subnotebook
Von longmao, 04:07

Small Flaw, toshiba pa3535u-1brs battery Big Effect. Acer has come out the with the new generation of Aspire TimelineX notebooks and the series wouldn't be complete without a 13.3" subnotebook. Speedy hardware, a classy design and a long battery life all sound pretty good.hp pavilion dv2000 battery But how does the CPU throttling issue affect this compact laptop's actual performance?

In addition to the Acer Aspire 3750 Consumer Subnotebook,hp pavilion dv6000 battery Acer also brings to the table another subnotebook, the 3830TG. While its 13.3" screen (1366 x 768 pixels, Glare-Type) might make it the smallest member of the Timeline series, it doesn't necessarily make it a weakling. Within the case, the Intel Core i5-2410M dual-core processor and Nvidia GeForce GT 540M dedicated graphics card provide the basis to make 3830TG the "little laptop that could". hp compaq 6710b battery With a bit more cash, you can choose the configuration with an Intel Core i7-2620M and a 120 GB solid state drive (SSD).compaq presario cq60 battery

The other hardware found within the Acer Aspire TimelineX 3830TG-2414G75nbb we reviewed: 4 GB DDR3-RAM,IBM thinkpad r60e battery an 750 GB hard drive and up-to-date wireless communication components. The laptop currently goes for 799 Euro (RRP). Lenovo thinkpad r60 battery

A special topic we paid particular attention to in this review is the issue of CPU throttling, since the previously-reviewed 4830TG and 5830TG of the same series exhibited some problems due to stifled CPU clock rates.Fujitsu lifebook t4210 battery

The classic TimelineX design, now in miniatureThe 3830TG has a very modern,Fujitsu lifebook t4220 battery yet not-too-flashy look. The blue, silver and black color scheme Acer calls "ice blue" is currently the only one available. The plastic surface of most of the case has a good look to it, but the pointy corners really could have been rounded off a bit more. The matte surfaces of the laptop feel quite nice while keeping dust and finger print marks from collecting all over the place. Unfortunately we can't say the same for the high-gloss aluminum display lid.hp pavilion dv9000 battery

The matte black base plate consists of a large hatch (leading to the hardware) covered with lots of exhaust vents.Acer Aspire 4315 battery The hatch is attached with only one screw, so access to the hardware is only a few turns of a screwdriver away. Under it you'll find 2 RAM slots good for a max. of 8 GB DDR3-RAM, the 2.5" hard drive, part of the cooling system and some empty space for a UMTS module or SIM card slot. Acer Aspire 4520 battery

The 3830TG has a good variety of ports to offer.Acer Aspire 4520G battery Besides the usual suspects like USB 2.0, VGA, Ethernet, headphone jack and the mic input, there's also an HDMI output (supports 1.4a) and a speedy new USB 3.0 port, which can charge peripheral devices even when the laptop is off.Acer Aspire 4710 battery The positioning of these ports is similar to the larger 4830TG, but some of the ports have switched sides. There is no DVD drive built in. A few too many of the ports are located toward the front, leaving little room to move around an external mouse. Besides the card reader, there are no ports located on the front edge nor any at all along the back edge.Acer Aspire 4710G battery

Oh glossy screen, who is the fairest one of all?The 3830TG comes in the compact 13.3" form factor,Acer Aspire 4720 battery that is, the screen measures 33 cm diagonally, with an aspect ration of 16:9 and a glossy screen (glare-type). The native resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels is typical for screens of this size. The display is produced by manufacturer AUO (model no. B133XW03) and does not support interpolated resolutions (non-native resolutions). There are two video outputs: VGA and HDMI which can transfer a signal to an external monitor/TV in up to a 1920 x 1080-pixel resolution. Acer Aspire 4720G battery

The LED-backlit screen has a maximum brightness of 193 cd/m², ranking in very typical. The one praiseworthy aspect of the display would be how evenly lit the screen is—the brightness distribution value comes to 91%. The average screen brightness of 185.3 cd/m² isn't too bad. Displays of significantly higher quality are, however, currently only found in premium-grade notebooks starting at around 1200 Euro.Acer Aspire 4720Z battery

You can have a look at Acer's new cooling system by taking off the hatch on the base plate. Acer Aspire 4920 battery Working with the fan, the copper heat pipes should provide for some good cooling. In idle mode, the case surfaces reach a relatively cool maximum of 29ºC, giving off a lukewarm feel. Under heavy use, the temperatures rise to fairly uncomfortable levels. We measured a maximum of 40.2ºC on top and 43.0º along the bottom of the base unit, which feels rather hot and can become uncomfortable to hold on your lap after a while.Acer Aspire 4920G battery

For your listening pleasure, there are two stereo speakers located just above the keyboard. Acer Aspire 4310 battery The audio quality is poor and emphasizes the highs too much. The bass is present but too subtle. Especially when listening to music is the mediocre sound quality particularly noticeable, although much worse speakers have been known to be found in comparable notebooks. On top of that, the max. volume is not too high, but for it the audio doesn't sound distorted when the volume's cranked all the way up. The better way to go is just to use the headphone jack or HDMI output to hook up external speakers.Acer Aspire 4315 battery

Classic TestThe 3830TG impresses with it's relatively long battery life.Acer Aspire 4520 battery The 6-cell battery has a 66-Wh capacity, making it above average for subnotebooks. The downside is that it's not removable (all new Timeline laptops).

Using the tool Battery Eater we measured the battery life in several scenarios. Acer Aspire 4520G batteryWe started off with the Classic Test, that is: the system under heavy use, wifi on, and screen brightness all the way up. The dedicated Nvidia GeForce GT 540M—active during this test—contributes a good deal to draining the battery. After a relatively short 2 hours 33 minutes the battery is dead, making the 3830TG's shortest battery life pretty average for a subnotebook. Acer Aspire 4710 battery

At the other extreme we have the Reader’s Test. With minimum screen brightness and wifi off, we simulated the reading of a text document. Thanks to the energy-saver in the processor and the integrated GPU (GT540M deactivated), the battery life comes to a whopping 12 hours 7 minutes.Acer Aspire 4710G battery

Since this battery life does not reflect everyday use, we also performed the "Internet Browsing via Wifi" test. At 8 hours 14 minutes, you can get a whole day's worth of work done and then some (depending on the intensity of the tasks at hand).Acer Aspire 4720 battery

The power consumption in various scenarios is naturally (inversely) proportional to the battery life we measured.Acer Aspire 4720G battery In idle mode as well as during light office work, a mere 9.3 watts are consumed—typical of even smaller netbooks of previous years—which accounts for the uncommonly long maximum battery life. Under heavier use, the energy consumption jumps from 42.8 watts all the way up to 79.9 watts when the Nvidia dedicated GPU becomes active. The power supply with a capacity of 90 watts can easily handle this level of stress.Acer Aspire 4720Z battery

Review Toshiba Satellite Pro L770-116 Notebook
Von longmao, 03:51

Pragmatic. An office machine or a chunk of plastic?Sony VGP-BPS9/S battery The Satellite Pro fuses consumer graphics with Core i5 power and an 8 GB RAM. A matt, manageable WXGA++ screen tops it off. Is it the perfect combination of entertainment and work?Sony VGP-BPS9 battery

Two, overstrained looking hinges keep the lid in position. Sony VGP-BPS9A/B battery There is no latch. The heavy display teeters when it's shaken, which is a problem during rough car rides. The maximum opening angle of about 140 degrees is sufficient for use on the lap. The lid's surface yields over a large area, however only by a few millimeters.Sony VGP-BPS9A/S battery

The wireless and network connections are up to date.Sony VGP-BPS13A/B battery The Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller (1000 MBit/s), the Atheros AR9002WB-1NG WLAN card and the Bluetooth module (3.0 +HS) are all capable of the fastest transmission.Sony VGP-BPS13 battery

The Satellite Pro L770 is subject to only a one year warranty. It includes a pickup service after registering via the Toshiba hotline in Germany and Austria.Sony VGP-BPS13A/Q battery The manufacturer also offers a warranty extension of up to 3 or 4 years (64, respectively 109 euros). Scope of service: spare parts and labor.Sony VGP-BPS13/B battery

The keys in chocolate style are placed very close to each other and have beveled edges.Sony VGP-BPS13B/B battery Unfortunately, we didn't notice a concave curve anymore (as in the Satellite Pro L670). Thus, typing is a bit inaccurate despite the clear pressure point and long key drop. In return,Sony VGP-BPS13B/Q battery the manufacturer has improved the weak point of the predecessor, L670. The keyboard no longer coils and now fits tight all over. Consequently, the keyboard has a firm stroke.Sony VGP-BPS13A/S battery

An exception for the firm stroke is the number pad that slightly coils. The numeric key field facilitates inputting numbers.Sony VGP-BPS13/Q battery The clear spatial separation of both keyboards by a crosspiece seems to be praiseworthy. The manufacturer has again thought about using separated arrow keys. Incorrect inputs hardly stand a chance even in hectic situations due to the small gap to the shift key.Sony VGP-BPS8 battery

The mouse replacement (multi-touchpad, Synaptics V7.2) is a part of the wrist-rest. Sony VGP-BPS8A battery The pad is rather small (9 cm diameter), but at least it's sensitive up to its edges. The surface has a vertical and horizontal scroll bar – although it's not visibly marked.Sony VGP-BPS10 battery

The round and upwardly curved keys have a high pressure point and attract attention with a loud,Sony VGP-BPS2 battery muffled click noise. This clattery feedback is soon irritating and lets you look for an external mouse. The cavity in which the two keys were installed didn't prove to be annoying.Sony VGP-BPS2A battery

Toshiba builds in a 17.3 inch WXGA++ display (LG-Philips: LP173WD1-TLP5) with a native resolution of 1600x900 pixels.Sony VGP-BPS2B battery The 16:9 screen has obviously been AR coated – there are no reflections. The contrast of 152:1 is very low and can be seen in the pale colors. The assessed black value is 1.47 cd/m2.Sony VGP-BPS2C battery The widescreen doesn't display dark sectors in deep black, but with a clear gray cast.Sony VGP-BPS22 battery

WXGA++ is an office suitable resolution for a 17 incher that has become the standard size here.Sony VGP-BPS22A battery The previously common and popular 4:3 format in the business field couldn't establish itself because the screens' manufacturing would have required standardization. Although the CPU and HDD would be fast enough,Sony VGP-BPS13AS battery the L770 isn't suitable for professional picture editors. The screen's color spectrum is narrow and clearly fails sRGB (t) and AdobeRGB (t).Sony VGP-BPS13S battery

PCMark Vantage assessed 6323 points.Sony VGP-BPS13/S battery A notable figure because the score is on a par with the MSI GX740 with an i7-720QM quad core CPU and Radeon HD 5870 (6225 points. i5-460M systems from 2010 achieved a maximum of up to 6000 points (Acer Aspire 3820TG-5464G75nks), unless they were equipped with an SSD.Sony VGP-BPS13B/S battery

You won't have to work with a lame duck right away if you want to spend less for the Satellite Pro L770-105 version Sony VGP-BPS10/B battery (starts at 600 euros) with an i3-2310M (500 GB HDD, 5400 rpm). However, 4600 points as in the equally configured Dell Inspiron 15R indicate a noticeably weaker performance (i3 = no Turbo Boost).Sony VGP-BPS10A battery

The 750 GB Toshiba hard disk contributes to PCMark Vantage's good HDD score of 3859 points (sub score)Sony VGP-BPS10A/B battery. The HDD (MK7575GSX) rotates with an increased speed (7200 rpm) and is superior to standard 5400 rpm HDDs in the access rates.Sony VGP-BPS10/S battery

The disk reads with 71 MB/s in sequential read (HDTune). Crystal Disk Mark, the second test,Sony VGP-BPS21A/B battery even records 93 MB/s (write 102 MB/s). Standard 5400 rpm hard disks achieve an average of 65/75 MB/s (HDTune/CDM). Nevertheless, Sony VGP-BPS21 batterythe hard disk solution doesn't come close to the high data throughputs and the resulting experienced fast speed of SSDs. Our test devices with an SSD achieved 14000 up to 20000 in the HDD score and about 145 MB/s in sequential read, e.g. XMG A501.Sony VGP-BPS21A battery

The Nvidia GeForce GT 525M (1024 MB DDR3)Sony VGP-BPS21/S battery is a dedicated midrange graphics card based on the GF108 core. It is superior to entry level GPUs (e.g. GT 520M, 64bit) due to the graphics memory's 128 bit bus. The DirectX 11 GPU is slightly inferior to a Radeon HD 6550 or a HD 6650 (+5% for the Radeon). Sony VGP-BPS21/B battery A few games, such as StarCraft 2, run up to 16% slower on the Radeon competition, though.dell vostro 1710 battery

Synthetic benchmarksdell vostro 1720 battery, like Unigine Heaven 2.1, show that the GT 525M has a similar performance as the HD 6550. 3DMark11 however prefers the HD 6550 (+33%). We checked what games make of these assumptions on the Satellite Pro L770 in two random tests. Dell Vostro 1310 battery

You shouldn't even consider a game of real-time strategy in the native resolutionDell Vostro 1510 battery (1600x900). The game first runs smoothly when we select a resolution of 1360x768 and medium details. The 34 fps don't leave room for increasing the resolution. The result is surprising because the same CPU/GPU combination achieves 42 fps (medium),Dell Inspiron 1545 battery respectively 31 fps (high) in the Inspiron 17R (N7110). The reason: Toshiba has set the core clock to 475 MHz and Dell to 600 MHz.dell xps m1530 battery

We again discover a performance decrease in Battlefield: Bad Company 2.Dell inspiron 1721 battery The equally configured Inspiron 17R achieves 27 fps in high and 38 in medium. Our L770 follows with 23, respectively 32 fps. Battlefield can thus only be played in medium settings. The Radeon HD 6550M laughs up its sleeve here because it is averagely faster by 33% in high (about 33%).dell vostro 1700 battery

The Geforce GT 525M is a typical midrange entry level GPU which fans of the latest games should disregard.dell latitude e4300 battery The manufacturer's set core rate of 475 MHz (rather than e.g. 600 MHz) also prevents gaming fun. Current games can usually only be played with disabled DirectX 11 details in medium details and resolutions. Older games, dell latitude e5500 battery such as Left 4 Dead, Trackmania Nations or World in Conflict, can however also be played in high details. Please see the Geforce GT 525M's spec sheet for more information.dell xps m1730 battery Ambitioned gamers with a tight budget should look around for a Radeon HD 6650M or GeForce GT 540M in the same price range.dell studio 1737 battery

A good office laptop should stand out with low waste heat and quiet noise.dell latitude e5400 batteryNo one needs to hold a little heater in their hands nowadays. The Satellite Pro L770 doesn't have to accept reproach in this regard. The fan is never disabled while surfing or writing emails, but it remains on a very low level with about 34 dB(A).dell inspiron e1505 battery The subtle whirr of the hard disk defines the lowest level with 32.5 dB(A) in idle. The fan is quieter than the HDD's whirring even when it's active.dell latitude e6500 battery

The fan turns up to 365. dB(A) in 3D benchmarks or games. Dell inspiron 1300 battery The L770 only reaches its maximum rate of 40 dB(A) in an unrealistic stress test. All four CPU threads are put under load (Prime95) and the Geforce GT 525M is processing (Furmark) in the stress test. Dell vostro 1400 battery The fan calms down extremely fast after the load is finished. It reduces its noise from 40 to 33 dB(A) within 15 seconds.Dell inspiron 1420 battery

Both built-in Onkyo stereo speakers are located above the keyboard's left and right.Dell inspiron 1521 battery Their treble-heavy sound, without even a hint of basses, is unsuitable for music rendering. We would recommend using external speakers or high quality headphones.dell studio 1535 battery

The lithium ion battery was fully recharged and ready for our battery tests after a charge time of about 99 minutes. Dell inspiron 1525 battery We determined 3:25 hours in WLAN surfing. This runtime can be considered as impressive for a 17.3 incher with dedicated graphics in view of the battery's low capacity of 48 Wh. Dell latitude e6400 battery The DVD test doesn't last quite as long. Lord of the Rings comes to an end after 2:10 hours. We watched it with a low brightness of 100 cd/m2. The predecessor, L670 (i3-350M, IGP) achieved 2:39,Dell latitude d620 battery respectively 2:30 hours in the same tests. It looks different when the processor is put under load. The battery is exhausted after 1:19 hours.Dell latitude d630 battery

The Satellite Pro L770's power consumption is low when the processor and/or the graphics aren't loaded.Dell inspiron 1526 battery The power consumption is 11.5 watts (idle, min.) when all energy savings options are enabled in idle (minimum brightness, wireless off). A bright display and enabled wireless modules take their toll. We measure 20 watts (idle, max.)Dell inspiron 6400 battery in high performance mode here. The maximum power consumption (without battery charging) is 59 watts (Prime95, solo). The 75 watt power adapter (306 grams) reached a maximum temperature of 50 degrees Celsius.Dell inspiron 1501 battery

Review Lenovo IdeaPad Y560p-M61G3GE Notebook
Von longmao, 05:08

Konrad Schneid (translated by Liala Stieglitz), 06/09/2011
Inner values. Fujitsu lifebook t4215 battery A lot of power for little money is Lenovo's promise for its IdeaPad Y560P. The configuration sounds good: Intel's quad core processor, Core i7-2630QM, and AMD's Radeon HD 6570M as the graphics card are installed for a price of only 900 euros. This review will shed light on the notebook's true capabilities and if there maybe is a hitch.Fujitsu lifebook t4210 battery

Lenovo introduced two product updates prior to the CES in Los Angeles this year.Fujitsu lifebook t4220 battery Besides the Lenovo IdeaPad Y460p with a 14 inch display, the notebook manufacturer also presented the model, Y560P. In addition to design modifications on the 15.6 incher, the technology has also been revised.Fujitsu lifebook t5010 battery The IdeaPad Y560P M61G3GE model which we reviewed has the quad core processor, Intel Core i7 2630QM with a clock rate of 2 GHz per core. An AMD Radeon HD 6570M is responsible for the video performance. apple a1175 battery Intel's Core i7 720QM with a clock rate of 1.6 GHz and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 was used in the prior model, IdeaPad Y560. apple a1185 battery Additional features are a built-in DVB-T TV tuner and speakers from the label, JBL. Upon hearing the initial facts, the product sounds like a real multimedia power bundle. However, that is only one side of the coin.apple a1189 battery In the following review, you will find out more about the pros and cons of the Lenovo IdeaPad Y560P M61G3GE.acer aspire 5920 battery

Lenovo's IdeaPad Y560P makes a very elegant first impression.acer aspire 5050 batteryThe display lid is made of brushed metal. As usual, the company's name in glossy silver plastic is found on it. The other case parts are made of plastic. If you don't care for fingerprints on the work surface, you'll have problems with this device.acer aspire 5100 battery The work surface is glossy and thus a magnet for fingerprints. Therefore, a cloth should always be kept within reach for removing these marks. acer aspire 5100 battery

The surface around the keyboard only yields slightly for the most part. The case can merely be dented stronger above the DVD drive. The keyboard's keys can also only be dented more intensely in the optical drive's area. It looks different on the laptop's base plate. The plastic bottom partly yields very intensely, which is also due to the numerous vents. The display lid can only be dented stronger towards the center. Moreover, the lid or better said, the surface can be twisted laterally.

The hinges don't hold the display as tight as you would like. The display teeters for a few seconds after adjusting the angle. Lenovo's IdeaPad Y560P sits securely on the table and doesn't slip thanks to the rubber feet. The weight of about 2.7 kilograms will also certainly have a part in this. The dimensions of 33mmx385mmx225mm (height x width x depth) aren't anything exceptional.

Laptop's rightThe interface options on the IdeaPad Y560P aren't exactly the newest. For example, you won't find a USB 3.0 port. Merely three ports of the prior generation have been installed. A VGA for external monitors and a HDMI interface are found on the notebook's left. Additionally, there is a gigabyte LAN port, two USB 2.0 ports and a line in and line out socket.

The right offers another USB port and an eSATA/USB combination besides a Kensington lock preparation. An ExpressCard slot also finds its place here. The rear doesn't bid any further connections. In return, the laptop's front differs from that with a memory cardreader for SD, SD Pro, xD, MS, MS Pro and MMC formats.

There are three different possibilities to link up to other devices, respectively networks. As mentioned in connectivity, Lenovo's IdeaPad Y560P has a Broadcom NetLink Gigabit Ethernet. Intel's WiFi Link 1000 BGN (b/g/n) is available for wireless communication. Apart from that, Bluetooth is also installed, but unfortunately only in the 2.1 +EDR version.

A DVB-T tuner from Avermedia is built into the notebook. The matching antenna is also included. Regrettably, it was too weak to receive signals in our location in Hamm, Westphalia, Germany. Hamm is not yet covered by digital TV so that an outdoor antenna is required. Lenovo offers quite a bit of optional supplies. The battery can also be recharged in the car with an AC/DC combo adapter. The IdeaPad USB port replicator bids five USB 2.0 ports, a DVI-I monitor interface, a DVI-VGA adapter, a stereo audio socket and an integrated Ethernet and cable lock slot. Finally, Lenovo also offers a remote control including keyboard. The alleged range is up to 10 meters.

The screen is the system's biggest weak point. The 15.6 inch display only manages a maximum resolution of 1366x768 pixels. The HD display comes with a 16:9 format. So far, everything is within an acceptable range. But now for the negative points: The display is reflective so that you can frequently look at yourself in the screen. The contrast of 192:1 also speaks for itself.

We measured the display's brightness with Datacolor's Mavo Monitor. LEDs are responsible for the background illumination. They only light up the screen to 163.6 cd/m2 on average. At least it's illuminated evenly. We measured 167 cd/m2 at the brightest spot, while the darkest accomplished 157 cd/m2.

Working in the shade is possibleThis display's outdoor suitability is very limited. The low brightness, and especially the glossy display, make using the system outdoors almost impossible. Nothing can be seen in direct sunlight. You can work with the display to an extent in the shade. However, it gets very strenuous after a while. The viewing angle stability is also unsatisfying. Overall, we are dealing with a very poor display, with the model AUO22EC.

As mentioned above, a quad core processor is used in the Lenovo IdeaPad Y560P. The quad core processor, Intel Core i7-2630QM, is based on the Sandy Bridge architecture. The base clock of the single cores is 2 GHz and is accordingly higher by 0.4 GHz than in the prior model with an Intel Core i7 720QM.Sony VGP-BPS9/S battery The clock rate can be increased once more in the Turbo Boost mode. A clock rate of 2.6 GHz can be achieved with all four cores simultaneously and the processor manages a whole 2.9 GHz with only one core. Sony VGP-BPS9 battery These rates can however only be accomplished within a specific temperature range. Sony VGP-BPS9A/B battery The improved Sandy Bridge architecture also bids the new 256 bit AVX Instructions in addition to Turbo 2.0. The 64 bit CPU has a 6144 KB L3 cache available. The maximum power consumption (TDP) is 45 watts.Sony VGP-BPS9A/S battery

The graphics card is a dedicated graphics chip. Lenovo opted for the AMD model,Sony VGP-BPS13A/B battery the Radeon HD 6570M in this case. The graphics card supports DirectX 11, Shader Model 5.0, OpenGL 4.1, OpenCL 1.1 and DirectCompute 11. Games, such as Fifa 11, should run smoothly in maximum quality.Sony VGP-BPS13 battery The quality level will have to be reduced a bit for demanding games so that they will run smoothly.Sony VGP-BPS13A/Q battery

The Intel Core i7-2630QM processor had to first show its performance in the benchmark tool, Sony VGP-BPS13B/Q battery Cinebench. Here, the Intel quad core processor excelled all the way through. It achieved a whole 17107 points in Cinebench R10 Multi Rendering (64bit) and thus lines in at the very top of our test database.Sony VGP-BPS13A/S battery Only the Asus N53SV with an Intel Core i7-2720QM processor (19601 points) or the ThinkPad W520 from Lenovo with an Intel 2820QM processor (19991 points),Sony VGP-BPS13/Q battery among others, achieve a higher score. Merely the Medion Erazer X6813 (MD97762) and the Dell Inspiron Queen Q15R are superior with the same processor. Sony VGP-BPS8 battery

The results are confirmed in Cinebench R11.5. Sony VGP-BPS8A battery Our test device reaches 4.9 points in the CPU test here. Even the other test units with the same processor are within this range. Apple's MacBook Pro with an Intel 2720QM processor only has a slight lead with 5.2 points. The Asus N53SV HD3000 with an Intel Core i7 2720QM had a bigger lead with 5.6 points.Sony VGP-BPS10 battery

We test the Lenovo's application performance with PCMark Vantage and this month's newly released benchmark tool, Sony VGP-BPS2 battery PCMark 7. Our test model again places itself in the test database's upper third with a total score of 6996 points in PCMark Vantage. Asus' G73SW-TZ083V, equipped with an Intel Core i7 2630QM and GeForce GTX 460M accomplished 7847 points.Sony VGP-BPS2A battery

The configuration is sufficient for a score of 2137 points in PCMark 7.Sony VGP-BPS2B battery The possibilities for comparison are still rather slender here. The Alienware M14x, also with Intel's Core i7 2630QM and the GeForce GT 555M graphics card (3395 points), is currently at the top of this database.Sony VGP-BPS2C battery

We check the AMD Radeon HD 6570M graphics card with the 3DMark range. Sony VGP-BPS22 battery Lenovo's IdeaPad Y560P-M61G3GE places itself in the upper midfield with a score of 7553 points in 3DMark 06 with a resolution of 1280x1024. Acer's Aspire 5750G-2634G64 achieved 8011 points with the same processor and the GeForce GT 540M for the graphics card.Sony VGP-BPS22A battery Since the AMD Radeon HD 6570M graphics card also supports DirectX 11, it was possible to test it with the latest 3DMark 11 version,Sony VGP-BPS13AS battery as well. The graphics chip is also located in the midfield with 1067 points in the GPU benchmark. Dell XPS 17-L702X, also with the same quad core processor but with a GeForce GT 555M, is a bit better with 1299 points.Sony VGP-BPS13S battery

Lenovo equips its IdeaPad Y560P with a big 750 GB hard disk from Western Digital. HoweverSony VGP-BPS13/S battery, the 2.5 inch hard disk only rotates with 5400 revolutions per minute and thus has losses in speed. This can also be seen in our test with HDTune. The average transfer speed is 76.5 MB/s.Sony VGP-BPS13B/S battery This rate isn't bad and the hard disk ends up in the midfield with it, but the performance would increase considerably with 7200 revolutions per minute (like in the prior model).Sony VGP-BPS10/B battery

We tested the laptop's gaming capabilities with five gamesSony VGP-BPS10A battery Undemanding games, such as Fifa 11, can even be played smoothly in the highest details. Our five games run smoothly even in a high detail level and a resolution of 1366x768 pixels. It only gets critical in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 with 32 frames per second.Sony VGP-BPS10A/B battery Games like Dirt 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops or Mafia 2 first become unplayable in an even higher resolution (tested in 1920x1080 pixels by us) which isn't an option for the built-in screen.Sony VGP-BPS10/S battery

The fans of Lenovo's IdeaPad Y560P already run in low load and partly even in idle.Sony VGP-BPS21A/B battery We measured the noise with the Voltcraft sl-320 at a distance of 15 centimeters. It was still a fairly quiet 33 dB(A) in idle. The system started to clearly attract attention while rendering a DVD. Our noise level was 37.3, which is already a bit disturbing.Sony VGP-BPS21 battery The fan rotates even faster during full load. The laptop reaches a noise level of 42.4 dB(A) during high load. This rate can already be described as disturbing.Sony VGP-BPS21/B battery

The temperature development on the laptop's surface is pleasant in idle.dell vostro 1710 battery The notebook reaches a maximum of 25.1 degrees Celsius, respectively 26.7 degrees on the bottom. These rates can be seen positively. The notebook gets a lot warmer during load. The top's maximum temperature is 43.6 degrees here. dell vostro 1720 battery A temperature of 47.8 degrees is even reached on the bottom. However, an average temperature of 30.8 degrees can be measured on the top and 32.8 degrees on the bottom.Dell Vostro 1310 battery

We pushed our test device to its limits in a stress test over several hours with Prime95 and Furmark. No problems turned up during this. Dell Vostro 1510 battery The processor remained slightly below the specified maximum (a maximum of 93 degrees Celsius according to CPUID Hardware Monitor), and the GPU stayed within an acceptable range with a maximum of 81°C.Dell Inspiron 1545 battery

The built-in speakers from the company, JBL, definitely belong to one of the Lenovo IdeaPad Y560P's highlights. dell xps m1530 battery The almost 4 cm wide speakers from the American manufacturers could fully convince us in the test. Naturally, there is always room for improvement,Dell inspiron 1721 battery but more often than not you are used to a poor quality in notebook speakers. The speakers support Dolby Home Theater and thus supply virtual 7.1 surround sound. The JBL speaker's bass could be a bit more defined. dell vostro 1700 battery There is a line in and line out jack for audio connections available. But there's nothing standing in the way of DVD or music entertainment with the brand name speakers.dell latitude e4300 battery

Unfortunately, it's not possible to accomplish long battery runtimes with the Lenovo IdeaPad Y560P.dell latitude e5500 battery The lithium ion battery achieves a maximum battery runtime of 4 hours and 21 minutes in BatteryEater's Reader's Test. Our surf test is a bit closer to real life. We set the display brightness to an agreeable level and surfed around on the Internet.dell xps m1730 batteryThe battery only lasted for 3 hours and 8 minutes. The battery life is even shorter in DVD rendering. Entertainment comes to an end after 2 hours and 35 minutes.dell studio 1737 battery This is enough to watch a whole DVD without a power socket. The battery doesn't even last for an hour during full load. BatteryEater's Test was finished after 58 minutes.dell latitude e5400 battery

Review Lenovo IdeaPad Z370 Subnotebook
Von longmao, 04:36

"Top" designer. Lenovo supplies a 13 inch subnotebook with the latest second generation Intel Core processors with the IdeaPad Z370.Dell latitude e6400 battery In addition to the hardware, a lot of effort has especially been invested in looks. For example, the notebook has a display lid with 3D effect. Is it after all only straining after effect?Dell latitude d620 battery

Lenovo launches a compact 13.3 inch subnotebook onto the market with the IdeaPad Z370.Dell latitude d630 battery Lenovo has designed the IdeaPad Z370 according to the idea: "superior elegance can be affordable". But the IdeaPad Z370 not only is to score with its looks,Dell inspiron 1526 battery but the latest Intel processors with Sandy Bridge architecture are to ensure sufficient computing power. The list ranges up to a new Core i7 and a 1 TB hard disk. We are looking at the model with an Intel Core i5-2410M and 750 GB hard disk in our review.Dell inspiron 6400 battery In addition, there are a lot of special functions installed. For example, Lenovo treats the IdeaPad Z370 to OneKey Recovery,Dell inspiron 1501 battery OneKey Theater and Rapid Boost Technology, among others. If these programs can provide a real added value for the user will have to be seen.Dell vostro 1000 battery

Lenovo's advertising text already implies that a lot of value has been placed on the IdeaPad Z370's looks.Dell vostro 1520 battery A lot of effort has been invested in only the display lid. Here, a transparent, metallic and 3D effect has been incorporated. A pattern of small squares is underneath the surface.Dell inspiron 1720 battery It becomes more or less visible depending on the angle of view. It is basically a nice effect, but the lid again receives a smooth, glossy surface. In return, it is very sensitive for fingerprints and scratches.Dell vostro 1500 battery Thus, a cleaning cloth is recommended. The display lid yields slightly under pressure and the display is not resistant against twisting, either. However, it didn't cause any color deviations.Dell latitude d820 battery The hinges aren't pulled particularly tight. It allows you to open the laptop with only one hand without lifting the base unit at the same time. The display teeters evidently during movements, though.Dell latitude d830 battery

When the display is opened, dell studio 17 battery you see an aluminum surface that covers the entire interior. You can debate about the surface's color – our test device had a slightly pinkish color – but it is resistant against fingerprints and even feels good. The wrist-rest is very pressure resistant and doesn't yield at all even under higher,Dell studio 15 battery selective pressure. The keyboard's left also proved to be very stable. However, the stability clearly decreases the more we move toward the optical drive.dell studio 1535 battery The keyboard can be depressed by a few millimeters directly over the drive. The surface can also be dented by a few millimeters at the back edge, so over the battery compartment.Toshiba PA3534U-1BRS

The notebook's workmanship generally makes a very solid impression.toshiba pa3535u-1brs battery We were pleasantly surprised about the wrist-rest made of aluminum. The gaps are very even for the most part. We could only find slight differences on the keyboard's left and right. The IdeaPad Z370 can be upgraded via a big cover on the bottom.hp pavilion dv2000 battery Lenovo gives the user a lot of leniency. If you like, you could even theoretically replace the processor.hp pavilion dv6000 battery

Unfortunately,hp pavilion dv9000 battery Lenovo doesn't install any fast USB 3.0 ports. The notebook has a total of three USB 2.0 ports available instead. One of them is a combined USB 2.0/eSATA port. The interfaces are basically placed so that they won't get in the user's way too much. hp compaq 6710b battery There are hardly any ports on the laptop's right and the interfaces that are needed more frequently have been moved to the back (USB and power socket). Regrettably, the majority of ports on the left have been placed far front.compaq presario cq60 battery But they don't get very annoying because most users will sooner have the mouse placed on the notebook's right. There are no interfaces on the rear due to the display's and battery's design.IBM thinkpad r60e battery

The 5in1 card reader is located on the front.Lenovo thinkpad r60 battery It supports MMC, SD, Memory Stick (Pro) and xD card formats. A dummy card has been inserted for protection. A small switch for turning the wireless technologies on and off is beside the slot. Lenovo thinkpad t60 battery

The IdeaPad Z370 practically meets all needs with its wireless technologies.Lenovo thinkpad x60 battery An Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter card takes care of WLAN connections. It supports 802.11 b/g/n standards. If you prefer to be on the Web via cable, IBM thinkpad X60S battery you can fall back on the PCIe Family Controller from Realtek. However, it only delivers speeds of 10 MB/s and 100 MB/s. Gigabit Ethernet is not supported. Bluetooth is also installed, but still in the 2.1 version with EDR and not in its 3.0 version.Lenovo thinkpad t500 battery

The scope of delivery isn't very lavish. In addition to the laptop, Lenovo thinkpad t61 battery the battery and the power adapter, you'll find some printed documentation and a warranty card in the box. There are no drivers or recovery DVDs. The system recovery is solved via the OneKey Recovery program. We have already been acquainted with it in previous Lenovo devices and it worked well in them. Lenovo thinkpad r61 battery

Lenovo uses an AccuType keyboard for the keyboard.Lenovo thinkpad t400 battery It's basically a keyboard with separated keys, also known as a chiclet keyboard. The single keys have a size of 15x15 millimeters and are slightly conic. That means they have a slight inward curve that is supposed to improve orientation and accuracy.Lenovo thinkpad t410 battery But, only the key distance of 4 millimeters should ensure a sufficient accuracy even without the concavity.Lenovo x300 battery

We really like the crisp keystroke and the keys convey a very pleasant typing feel.Lenovo x200 battery The typing noise is also convincing – it is very unobtrusive and quiet. We have already criticized the keyboard's stability on the right in the section about design, but it is hardly noticed when typing normally. We only notice a bit of yielding when the enter key is hit.Lenovo 3000 v100 battery

There is a row of hot keys above the keyboard.Lenovo 3000 v200 battery For example, there is a button for volume control on the right above the keyboard. They have been designed as capacitive buttons so that a touch is sufficient to trigger the desired effect. A big power button is located above the keyboard's left, as well as the, rightly small sized, OneKey Recovery button.Lenovo 3000 c200 battery

Lenovo gives the IdeaPad Z370 a multi-touchpad with a diagonal of 95 millimeters (42 millimeters x 85 millimeters).Lenovo ideapad s10 battery The touchpad is in a cavity on the wrist-rest. Consequently, the pad's limits are clearly defined. The touchpad's surface has been roughened slightly and has been given a dotted texture. Fujitsu lifebook t4215 battery This is to contribute to the touchpad's accuracy. There is a vertical scroll bar on the right, as wellFujitsu lifebook t4210 battery The horizontal scroll bar is standardly disabled. Multi-touch also works perfectly and allowed us to scroll through documents and websites or zoom in on pictures with ease. Overall, you can work well with the touchpad.Fujitsu lifebook t4220 battery

Both mouse keys have been designed as a rocker and are made of one big key.Fujitsu lifebook t5010 battery The keys' drop has turned out rather short, but isn't disturbing, either. You can also work properly with both touchpad keys.apple a1175 battery

Lenovo installs a 13.3 inch screen with a resolution of 1366x768 pixels into the IdeaPad Z370.apple a1185 battery It is a display with a glare type surface and LED backlight. The latter has likely become a matter of good form, just like the aspect ratio of 16:9 in laptop displays in the meantime.apple a1189 battery

The brightness of the display built into the IdeaPad Z370 isn't outstanding. acer aspire 5920 battery The IdeaPad Z370's display sooner places itself in the broad midfield of tested notebook displays with a maximum measured brightness of 197 cd/m2 and an average brightness of 186 cd/m2. The screen's even illumination has to be pointed out positively, though. It is very good with 92%.acer aspire 5050 battery

The black value and contrast ratio aren't as impressive. acer aspire 5100 battery While the black value of 1.18 cd/m2 is too high, the contrast turns out very low with 157:1 as a direct consequence. This especially has an adverse effect on games, movies and outdoor use.acer aspire 5100 battery

While dark areas look more gray than black in games and movies,Sony VGP-BPS9/S battery the poor contrast reduces legibility in sunlight. In regard to color reproduction, Lenovo uses a typical representative of budget office and multimedia notebooks that lacks an extended color spectrum.Sony VGP-BPS9 battery

Lenovo IdeaPad Z370 vs.Sony VGP-BPS9A/B battery Dell Vostro 3350(t)The display contents' legibility suffers greatly under the low contrast and, in particular, reflective surface during outdoor use. It is partly impossible to recognize anything on the screen, depending on the viewing angle. Sony VGP-BPS9A/S battery And even if you can see something, it quickly gets tiresome, for example reading tests. You should rather look around for a shady place in the summer or – even better – a room indoors.Sony VGP-BPS13A/B battery

The Lenovo IdeaPad Z370's viewing angle stability is about in accordance to that of the majority of the latest laptops has to offer. Sony VGP-BPS13 battery The viewing angle stability is still adequate horizontally, even in more narrow angles, and the picture first changes fairly late. The vertical plane isn't quite as good. The picture fades fast and is consequently almost illegible.Sony VGP-BPS13A/Q battery

A Core i5-2410M from Intel does its job inside the Lenovo IdeaPad Z370.Sony VGP-BPS13/B battery It is a midrange dual core processor from the second generation of Core processors. The processor isn’t exactly weak ex-factory with a clock rate of 2.3 GHz.Sony VGP-BPS13B/B battery Even more performance reserves can be mobilized in case of situations with a higher power requirement thanks to Turbo Boost 2.0 – providing that the processor is sufficiently cooled. The clock rate can be increased to 2.6 GHz (2 cores loaded), Sony VGP-BPS13B/Q battery or 2.9 GHz (1 core). The 2410M processor can even compete with the much faster clocked predecessor, Core i5-560M with 2.7-3.2 GHz, due to the optimized architecture.Sony VGP-BPS13A/S battery The 2410M is partly even faster than the 560M. Moreover, the 2410M processor incorporates the entry level graphics and memory controller. The graphics card is an Intel HD Graphics 3000 graphics card,Sony VGP-BPS13/Q battery which has primarily been designed for office applications and light multimedia tasks (media rendering). Basically, the Intel Core i5-2410M processor is a good all-rounder that can cover a wide field of daily applications.Sony VGP-BPS8 battery
